Doctor Who- Who will be the 12th Doctor?

Hmph, sounds interesting. I might get into it.
This year is a good year for Whovians, it's the 50th anniversary on November 23rd! It's quite easy to get in to Classic Doctor Who now since there are lots of episodes that have been remastered and put on DVD. There are also a ton of books to go alongside the series which are reasonably cheap.

PETER CAPALDI IS THE 12th DOCTOR!!!

I'm thinking he will be a good Doctor, hopefully he will bring a slightly darker tone to the series! He was one of the bookies favourites too.

I actually just recently started watching Doctor Who, and I absolutely love it!

I started watching with David Tennant. You didn't spoil it for me, I was watching the whole thing. :D

I'm glad I didn't spoil it for you- All my family was watching the announcement together, it's my brother's birthday. Tennant is a great Doctor, he has a lot of great episodes and he was my first Doctor too!

Aw, that's nice. My family hasn't ever watched Doctor Who, but all my cousins and aunts and uncles love it. My cousins basically introduced me to it.

Already people are saying Peter Capaldi be as good as David Tennant or Matt Smith. I wish they'd shut up and give him a chance. We've seen him in both Doctor Who and Torchwood giving excellent performances before, there's no reason he won't be good. Also, The Doctor does not need to be attractive. In fact, I think that casting Capaldi might bring back some of the magic of the classic series. He'll also bring a bit of maturity to it, as long as Moffat lets him.

Sorry for the rant, I'm a huge fan of the show and it really annoys me that people can't give the new actor a chance. We had the same thing when Matt Smith was cast.

Yaaay! Peter Capaldi! :D I know he will be just as awesome as the past 11th doctors!
I can't wait for it!

I've already seen people posting on other websites that they won't watch Doctor Who anymore since Capaldi is 'old' and 'unattractive', so what? He's a got a great acting career, looks aren't all important! I think we can see those people aren't real fans... The Doctor hasn't always been young, William Hartnell was 55 when he played the Doctor, Patrick Troughton was 46 and Jon Pertwee was 51!

I'm just sick of people who are angry cause they can't ship Whoffle cause "he's old." I don't ship it anyways because 11/River, and 11/Clara seems like more of a brotp to me. I think that people need to go in with an open mind and whatever happens happens. He could be an amazing Doctor.

I'm more annoyed with the Tumblr Social Justice Whovians who are all "We want a POC (person of color)/queer/female Doctor!" And I'm just like "no......."

While I understand why someone would want that, I'd be fine with a non white Doctor & queer cause who the hell cares about what they do in their private time, I would find a female kind of a hard thing to get used to.
The people who are like "MOFFAT YOU SEXIST, RACIST JERK!" Just cause he chose a white man make me want to kill them. While he may have wanted a white man, you can't just assume that he wasn't open to the idea. It just turned out that the right man for the job was a white man.

Regarding a POC Doctor: Neil Gaiman said on his tumblr tonight that he knows of one POC actor who was offered the role and turned it down. He won't say more than that, such as when and what actor. But, let it known, the attempt for a POC Doctor was made. So, there's that.

You kind of misunderstand me, I think. I'd be in favor of it too, but the way these Tumblr people are talking, it's like they are DEMANDING that the Doctor has to be a minority. When he doesn't >.>

If you look at some comments on the article Digital Spy posted once Capaldi was announced some people are being a bit melodramatic over this! Threats to write to the BBC complaining, Moffat's shaking in in his boots *sarcasm*
Though I've seen lots of people on Twitter, in Facebook groups and other fan forums bringing feminism into the argument... As a woman myself I fail to see how it's a part of women's rights to have a female Doctor, I mean we have women in Doctor Who so it's not like we are underrepresented....

As far as I'm aware without doing a proper count, he's had more female companions than male companions. So yes, women are definitely well represented. Also, River is basically the female version of him anyway.
I do hope the fact that he's older means that when Clara leaves they won't go back to having a companion who's in love with him. Which means there's a chance for a proper male companion again.

I have seen a lot of people complaining about the fact Capaldi has been in Torchwood and Doctor Who before, but it doesn't really bother me. Colin Baker did it, why can't he?

I'm hoping they could have both a male and female companion- they've done it before, Ian and Barbara with the Doctor (And Susan!)- without having the two companions be in a romantic situation and without the male only being there for comedy purposes (Poor Mickey...)

I'm hoping that with Capaldi, Moffat will bring in much darker stories- Doctor Who started off as a FAMILY program, not a children's program- and Classic 'Who could get rather dark! (McCoy's 7th Doctor was getting rather dark character wise by the end of his stint!) I'm expecting Classic 'Who dark storylines beefed up by their higher budget!

It could be said that it's newer fans to the show/people who have only seen New 'Who that are getting confused but I've seen quite a few people that claim to have watched Classic 'Who from their childhood getting confused too...
