This one tends to be an argument of safety vs comfort, so I'm curious to hear peoples thoughts.
I prefer to sleep with the upstairs windows open. I don't like warm/stale air and I often wake-up feeling too hot in the middle of the night if they're closed - even in winter.
Do you prefer to sleep with the windows open or closed?
My bed rocks too much. The frame is falling apart. I've been sleeping on a chaise for the last year or so. (Which turns out is actually very comfortable). And it's soft.
Before that, I never even considered sleeping with windows open. We live back in the woodlands and I guarantee something would fly inside.
The chaise is directly across the room from a window, so I shut the blinds because the lights next door are difficult to sleep with.
There are three windows in my room and in the summer I keep them all slightly open to get a breeze - my bedroom is on the third floor in our house so safety of having the windows open isn’t a problem and been higher up my room can get very hot and stuffy but same as others I can’t stand any insects getting into my room so only keep them all on the latch to get some air circulating around the room without getting a bunch of uninvited guests.
I like leaving my windows open when it’s warm for fresh air. I have a screen, so I don’t have to worry about bugs. Plus I live in a very safe neighborhood.
I always sleep with the windows closed because the last thing I want when I'm sleeping is for a bug to come into my room and scare the living heck out of me.
I also make sure to close the curtains for the same reason, and also because my mom says someone could be watching me while I'm sleeping.
I like them open almost all the time. I live in a warmer climate area and using air conditioner is too expensive. I like a nice cool breeze, but sometimes in the winter months, I will close the window. I don't have to worry about bugs as I have screens on all the windows.
Another reason is I like hearing the wildlife at night is pretty soothing to me (minus the coyote yappy parties and the occasional barn owl screech). I love the great owl hoots and when they exchange hoots for mates.
I almost always have my window open. The only times I close it are when it's too humid outside during the summer (I don't want hot/humid air coming into my room), when it's too cold during the winter, and whenever I just need/want to have it closed for whatever reason.
For the most part though, I like my window being open, especially when I'm going to bed and especially when it's raining or cold outside. It's soothing to fall asleep listening to the rain, and I love when my room gets cold. My window is open pretty much all winter, freezing temps outside or not, until it gets too cold for my parents or myself. Summer is a miserable season for me with how sensitive I am to hot/humid temps, so I make sure to soak up winter as much as I can lol. But even when it's not raining or cold outside, I just like having my window open for the fresh air.
My window has a screen, so I don't have to worry about bugs getting in. I also live on a high floor of an apartment building, so I don't feel unsafe having my window open.
Open during summer, otherwise it's too hot! I don't seem to have an issue with bugs getting in, although I have lace curtains which probably somewhat stops them. My window isn't visible from the road, so I'm not concerned about safety. Plus the windows are quite high up compared to ground level, so I'd wake up if someone tried to scramble in lol.
My windows have screens so things can't actually get in or out besides air.
But even with that, no. Leaving the windows open for too long would waste the air conditioner/heater and get my family mad at me. I only open one when I cannot stand the air in the house, but I won't sleep that way.
I sleep with only the upstairs windows open. When I lived on the first floor, I kept them shut and locked for safety. I LOVE feeling the night breeze blowing in and hearing crickets! But sadly, in the early AM I'll get woken up by dogs barking or construction or someone using a power tool so I tend to shut them now :C
Dunno how people think it's acceptable to let their dogs bark nonstop at 6am or people using leaf blowers at 5am on weekends. People are so ignorant.
Open! I like to feel the breeze coming in and hear the birds chirping when I wake up. I have a screen on my window so I don't really have to worry about bugs and mostly only close it when I wake up in the middle of the night during the winter months because it's too cold.
