do you put your pets in outfits? 🐶🐱

I used to dress up my childhood cat a lot when I was younger. He had a lot of patience and would wear the dresses I put on him haha

He looked good though haha

My dogs all have sweaters for the winter and the chihuahua has a few extra dresses and coats to look fancy ✨

No, I don’t dress up my cat. He wouldn’t let me 😆 He is gorgeous as he is. The only “outfit” is his harness.Brandy is a kind of indoor cat but we go out into the back garden. He loves the sunshine and talking to the birds.

I've tried putting my dogs in jackets or hats and they always resisted and tried taking them off. I decided it was best to just leave them be. I'm happy for people's pets that are up for wearing outfits though since they can be really cute.

I would love to, but I don't dress my cats. They don't even wear collars.

My oldest doesn't like being picked up in the first place and is very skittish. He's usually low energy but the last time I tried to put a collar on him he freaked out and clawed my arm.

My middle cat doesn't mind wearing collars but I won't put one on him if his older brother won't wear his matching one.

The kitten lets us put collars on her also but she constantly picks at them to the point she irritates her skin. I was so sad I couldn't put her adorable pink collars on her! She had even removed and lost one of them in the house somewhere before we gave up putting them on her.

Based on this, I won't even try to put outfits on them. My middle cat would probably allow it but mean mug us the entire time. But I don't want the others to be left out.

Aww, I used to dress up Sydney, she loved it, bless her heart. She won 3rd place in a Halloween costume contest one time, dressing up as a piñata. I also used to put her in a little Santa dress and take her to the pet store to get her picture taken with Santa. She really loved it, she felt so pretty. I miss her so much. She was my pretty princess.

I've never had any pets that enjoyed being dressed up. Opposite reactions honestly. They've all hated it.

I assumed it was just a natural animal thing, so I'm surprised to see so many posts here with animals who are okay with it. I guess it factors into all animals having a unique personality.

Not very often but I do have Halloween costumes for my dog and cat and like, one or two small pieces like bandanas. I believe I have a hot dog costume for my dog and a lobster costume for my cat but unfortunately I don't have any pictures atm. Maybe I'll take some sometime lol🤣. However I do have some pics of my dog in a bandana and my cat in a bow tie.

No I don't dress my pets. We have two cats and they don't even wear collars. I don't think either of them would like to be dressed up since they wouldn't be used to it or find it weird?

All of my pets are fully dressed. Even my foxes, lambs, frog, pigs, cows, and duck. And they can’t complain because they are dolls!

Pets definitely have very different tolerance levels when it comes to outfits, and cats tend to be far less forgiving than dogs. Most cats dislike anything that restricts movement or touches their whisker area, so hats and socks usually get instant side-eye. Dogs, on the other hand, are often more accepting, especially if they are introduced slowly and associate the item with warmth, treats, or outdoor time.

Cold sensitivity is one of the few situations where clothing genuinely helps. Smaller or short-haired dogs often seem more relaxed once a soft sweater or light jacket is on, while bulky costumes usually work best for quick photos only. Bandanas and lightweight accessories tend to be the safest middle ground since they are less intrusive and still give that cute seasonal look.

Fit and fabric make a big difference as well. Well-designed pieces from places such as Supreme Dog Garage focus more on comfort and proper sizing, which helps pets tolerate wearing something for longer periods without itching or stress. When an item feels natural rather than restrictive, pets are far more willing to cooperate.

At the end of the day, reading each pet’s body language matters more than the outfit itself. If they freeze, flatten their ears, or try to escape, the photo opportunity probably is not worth it. Still, when a pet genuinely seems comfortable, those cute outfit moments can be fun memories rather than a battle.
