Do you need something to help you sleep each night?

Just a curious thought, I always need an box fan to sleep. I really have a hard time falling asleep without one blowing on my face and for the white noise. When getting older I always now have to have an podcast on to listen to also to help me fall asleep. Strange I know lol

As a general rule no. I'm one of those people who can fall asleep pretty much anywhere and under any conditions. I've slept above a club and across the street from a hospital in the past (loud music, loud people, and sirens are the norm!); I used to sleep in a room with seven fish tanks (loud filters and the constant sound of running water); and I've travelled a lot for work so I'm used to sharing beds/rooms with people I don't know/trust/like.

On the rare occasion I can't sleep I put on an episode of either The Big Bang Theory or How I Met Your Mother on really low volume and fall asleep that way. I don't even watch the screen - the sound alone helps.

i have to have certain conditions met (like it's completely dark and quiet and not too hot) but not really a thing. i used to always need a cold wet cloth on my head (that sounds weird when i write it out but??? i literally used to have one every night for years idk...) when i was younger because i had chronic headaches and it felt nice to have it, but i haven't had that in years at this point.

i am terrible at falling asleep, literally everthing needs to be perfect or i won't sleep 😅
like i need 3 duvets, my homemade bear, it has to be completely silent, every single light must be off so it's really dark and i also need either my giant pencil pillow or my giant shark pillow

also i can only sleep in my own bed so as a child, i could never stay round a friend's house

i’ve never been able to fall asleep without noise and lighting of some sort - silence and being in total darkness has always put me on edge and so i keep my fan on + have some light coming from my phone which helps a lot and thankfully doesn’t disturb me aha.

i can’t sleep anywhere except my own bed, either but that’s not really a situation that i ever find myself in. c’:

i'm terrible at falling asleep in general unless i'm totally wiped out, but there are several things that make it easier.

the darker the better, which is unfortunate since my sister (who i share a room with) insists on having a table lamp on, even though the hall light is already on and we have the door open.

having the fan on, especially in the summer to keep me semi-cool. something about the sensation of it blowing puts me at ease? i guess? idk. i think it's also partly the noise, but i can't exactly here it because-

i need to have music playing. this is the big one. it helps me focus on ""dreaming"" which is just to say i find it easier to imagine scenarios and focus on them when i have music as a backdrop. (and that then helps me drift off into Actual dreams.) i'll get distracted from them by little sounds otherwise or woken up too early by people making noise (even though i'm not a particularly light sleeper?) which sucks.

My sleep pattern is often all over the place, I can sleep really well each night for a few weeks but then I'll go a really long time with barely getting any sleep at all. I can usually only sleep well in my own bed and I need one particular pillow that always helps me sleep better, the room also needs to be dark and very quiet. I also keep a few soft toys on my bed which help me fall asleep easier and I have a couple of microwavable lavender scented ones which can be especially cosy in the winter and help me relax.

The summer is always worse for my sleep pattern, it's can be too hot and light outside to fall asleep and the fan can make too much noise for me to sleep, I've tried the night tablet/oil remedies that can be purchased at local shops but they don't work for me. I do have stronger prescription sleeping medications which work very well for helping me catch up on sleep but they take about 12 hours to wear off and leave me feeling too groggy in the morning so I only ever use them if I don't have any plans the next day and if I've gone too long without any sleep.

As long I'm sleepy, no. But if I'm not sleepy whatsoever, i always put lullabies, it helps a lot.. I Swear I'm not a baby!!

blankets :)

seriously though, I almost always need to sleep sitting. I often can't get comfortable any other way because of my legs. Well realistically it is probably my back, but what I feel is in my legs. And I need dim light. I don't like the super dark nor do I like a bunch of light. I do well with some sort of sound, but it isn't necessary.

I have a noisemaker and usually sleep with a sleep mask and glass of water beside my bed in case I wake up thirsty. When traveling, I always bring audiobooks and a headset, I find that I can't fall asleep on the plane without the noise.

absolutely, I can only fall asleep naturally like 5 times a year lol

my nightly ritual consists of taking a sleeping medication and then lying there for like 20 min waiting for it to start taking effect, white noise, and a yt video. sometimes it only takes that 20 minutes but sometimes it can take up to an hour. the room has to be completely dark, or maybe with just a bit of light coming from outside my window (the light in the hallway at my dorm keeps me up so I have to put something along the bottom of the door to block it). I put on a youtube video where someone does a lot of talking and the video isn't critical to understanding them (if there is actually a video part that shows better what's going on then I'll just want to watch the video, whereas I usually try to find a video like, for example, one where someone is talking about an episode from the Pokemon anime and the video is just short clips from the episode that aren't integral to what the youtuber is saying). listening to someone talk helps me a lot because it makes my mind focus on just that one thing and not allowing it to just drift all over the place (btw a big shoutout to my ADD ya stupid *****) and then I can fall asleep.

another weird thing is, no matter if I've got a yt video playing or not I have to have some kind of white noise in the bg as well. I usually use a fan on low speed, but things like the sound of wind/rain help too.

I'm not a heavy sleeper so I needed something to help me. First, it was turning off the lights or at the very least, on low brightness. Secondly, I hug a small pillow whenever I sleep on my belly. I feel more comfortable sleeping in that position as opposed to without it. Hugging Stitches while I sleep is an added bonus.

Usually I would be able to knock out with no problem, but when my brain is particularly active and won’t shut up, I would play ASMR videos on my phone. That gets me to sleep within minutes. Any kind does the trick, but on really bad nights the talking/RP variety helps the most.

The only thing I need to fall asleep is a relative amount of silence, the only thing I can put up with when falling asleep is my clock ticking. Anything else like outside noise (especially if my window is open in the summer) or someone snoring nearby can make falling asleep a lot harder.

No, I don’t need anything to help me sleep. I can sleep through thunderstorms and not wake up at all. I think the end of the world could be happening and I would just sleep through it. However, certain noises such as other people DO wake me up. As far as needing anything to help get me to sleep though? No.

I've been working nights for the past month or so and have started taking a Benadryl to make me drowsy, as well as listening to a white noise machine to help keep me asleep. It works pretty well.

i don’t, but i used to need a humidifier in my room at all times to sleep when i was a kid. i also for some reason at some point in time left the lights in my room on to sleep every night. now everything is fine, though i can say im not one to fall asleep easily. it takes me a good hour or more to fully fall asleep while in my bed, and i wake up really easily, so the slightest noise and ill be alert.

Right now I can only fall asleep if I'm blasting smoothed brown noise at nearly full volume with headphones on lol. I've become really sensitive to noise and can't sleep if I hear the slightest sounds.

I just need to be tired to fall asleep. As long as I'm tired, I can fall asleep easily regardless of light or sounds. The only problem is that I don't usually get tired until after 2am and I have to wake up for work between 7-8am.

I've tried lots of tricks to try falling asleep earlier, but none of them have worked for me.
