Tasty Cake
i saw this video of a 915-hour island tour, and my god it was pretty impressive. some might think it's all over the place because it basically have cottagecore, fairycore, medieval/castle (?) and town vibes all-in-one island. even some island vibes on the beach. i'm shocked they didn't manage to sneak in zen there lol but that would be overkill. you can see the game lagging though. sucks the switch can't handle all these items. also, i wonder how they were able to have ALL those QR codes saved including THE path? HOW???

i feel like i can relate to the creator of this because personally i can't stick to ONE theme, but i'm curious if some of you think it's messy.
we see screenshots all over social media of those popular fairy or cottage core islands, and i wonder if they design their island the same throughout.

Honestly, cottagecore, fairycore, medieval/castle is kinda in the same family of themes so it's not weird. But I want a playable island and I would hate an island like that one in the video.

My island doesn't have a theme other than it's going to be a "standard" island I guess. There's a beach area, there's a camping area, the small town with the shops, and a forest that I have to start planting soon.

My island is mostly pink and other soft colors but I have a few odd tropical and zen sections in the back. I couldn't help myself! Sticking to one theme was starting to get boring. I had to add a little variation in there!

I would love a zen area for my bamboo trees. The hardest part about mixing themes is making the different area transitions nice.

IMO, it's really easy to get a nice screenshot of an area but it can look really jarring when you actually move around in the game.

My island is a little bit of everything: enchanted, classical, beachy, cedar forest, zen, fairytale (no not that garbage anime) and rural.

I poured a lot of my time and dedication in every corner, but at the same time not filled everything up with needless, tacky clutter.

I'm not good or very original at designing or planning layouts, so my island is pretty much mix and random everywhere.
May not be impressive but I like it that way! :D

My island is a big mix too!
I have the tropical theme lane, kinda zen place, not quite cottage core corner, and somewhat forest themed square.
I can only have one island but like to mix it up! I think it blends OK together and I get to play with different styles so that's more fun to me, even if the overall look might be less coherent

I've changed the layout of my island at least 10 times, and I'm in the process of changing up a little bit again. When I see videos like the one above, I wonder how they seem to have a larger island than I do. I wanted to give my residents they're own gardens. I didn't make them large, but it still seemed to take up more space than I had.
Now I've managed to make a small farm, a little wood to wander about in. And I'm working on elevating 4 residents and having a bamboo theme for two, as I feel it suits they're species (Phoebe and Leonardo) and a small forest feel for the other two. But space still seems to escape me. I had to bring my museum down and shorten the entrance to it. Which was a shame as I had a second level with the Quetzal fossil and it looked pretty cool.

With the space, I think it's because the layer items either behind other items or on surfaces and a lot of small items. So it feels bigger cause there's more stuff. You can get the same feel by having nothing around. There's a happy middle ground but it's really hard.

I'm not very far into the grand plan but I am kinda basing my island on big British gardens where there are lots of sections with different themes, ending up with a wild woodland at the back. I like the idea of turning a corner and finding something different, but I'll probably just end up with a hodgepodge of areas, and that's fine. One theme would be kinda limiting.

My island has a zen theme but I feel I want to mix it up for seasonal events like Halloween. In the end I just feel like whatever I feel like doing.

I try to keep “natural and overgrown” as an overarching theme but I love all the funky furniture items in the game so I don’t want to limit myself and I try to incorporate them!

I try nest areas with contrasting themes behind cliffs or waterfalls and stuff so it can't be seen from the main area! That's why I stuffed my zen/rock garden in the back of the island. Nobody ever sees it or goes back there but it's nice to have a place to put bamboo trees and stuff!

I also try to carry over small elements of the main theme into each area like the zen area has cherry blossom items to tie in the pink. The library has white bookshelves, etc. Its so fun to design different areas and make it all tie in!

I was going to say that I don't have themes at all, but then I realized I do have sections. I have town, resident area, orchard, forest, campsite, and bamboo forest. So yep. I mix themes!

this is ME exactly haha. when people ask/when there are threads about themes, i never know what to answer about mine. watching those tour videos, they mostly have the same theme. i have those same sections you have as well. town for the market place, natural areas for the campsite, orchard & zen, and then the general neighborhood.

My island doesn’t have a specific theme. I just do anything that looks islander related and that looks pretty. Summer vibes all year round.

My island is all over the place lol. I sort of just put down whatever I think looks decent without trying to stick to one specific theme.

My theme is kind of mixed but then at the same time falls under one larger theme lol. I have a smaller part of my island set up as the town, so the shops and homes and museum are all there. That’s where I have classic features such as a cafe, a tiki bar, I’m going to put in a little park, etc. then on the other side of the river I have a spooky forest and my (of course) witch player living deep within. So it’s kind of a mix between like a regular town and a forest town, but with the overarching theme of the villagers live in an old town on the edgy of a haunted forest that everybody is scared to go into. Although this is animal crossing lol so if the villagers wanna walk into the forest there’s nothing stopping them lmao
