I've always had a forbidden love for Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. True, the touchscreen controls can be annoying, and I wish you could just use the d-pad, but if you look past that, I see 2 games that push the DS to its limits. While Wind Waker is still my favorite Zelda game, and probably favorite game of all time, my favorite original DS games will be those two Zelda titles. They both (especially Spirit Tracks) have the best characters I've ever seen in a Zelda game, and Spirit Tracks had me stumped on the puzzles sometimes. Phantom Hourglass had the satisfaction of finding new islands, and the even better satisfaction of continuing Wind Waker's story!
Anyways, what are you opinions on the matter? Don't worry, I won't be a jerk and ignore your opinions worth!

I have only watched my friends play them but I thought they were really good for the time and they still hold up well today

They were bad, especially Phantom Hourglass.
Wind Waker is my favorite Zelda game, but Phantom Hourglass is nothing like it, probably my least favorite Zelda game. And I'm not angry because it isn't Wind Waker, it's just bad. Why do I have to go through the same exact dungeon 4 or 5 times, but go a little bit further each time??? Why not try and add original content instead of forcing you to do the same thing over and over and over and OVER AND I'M TIRED OF THIS GAME K BYE.
The online multiplayer was fun, but there's no more DS WiFi so oh well, there goes the only part of the game I enjoyed.
Spirit Tracks was better. It had the same "central dungeon" thing, but at least you didn't have to do the same thing in it repeatedly. The multiplayer in it wasn't as fun, but I only played it once years ago, so I barely remember it. The Force Shards(?) were fun to collect, although a few of them were tricky to get. Same thing with the rabbits.
The controls were never a problem for me. Sure I had to get used to it, but they weren't intolerable. The only control issue were THOSE DRAWING PUZZLES THAT NO MATTER HOW PERFECT YOU DREW THE PICTURE, IT WOULDN'T ACCEPT IT EVER. I think Spirit Tracks fixed it, but again, I haven't played it for years. (I think I lost both games anyways so oops.)

they're pretty junk games tbh

also visual vomit

Linebeck's bloodline was cool though

too cool for these games in fact

I loved Phantom Hourglass. Had a lot of fun with the controls and the gameplay. That and Spirit Tracks, I had them as christmas presents in each of the years they came out.

Very fond memories of playing them christmas day after getting stuffed with turkey and fizzy grape juice.

They were decent titles for the console they were on, I greatly enjoyed them for the most part. Actually tried collecting everything (I don't recall getting all the Gold parts), if anything the game I had issues with was Spirit Tracks. That damn pan flute and every instrument from then on is just a pain in the ass to play. I don't recall if it was the last temple or not, but it took forever to play some of those songs correctly.

only played phantom hourglass. it was kind of meh.... Definitely worse than other games in the series imo

I did the same with phantom hourglass. But oh man that pan flute.. The first few were fun, but I couldn't get the very last one right. Never finished spirit tracks because of it. The rest of the game was really fun, though I couldn't really get into the trains compared to the boat in PH.

I thoroughly enjoyed Phantom Hourglass, but I couldn't get into Spirit Tracks. And I really tried.

OMG, no! I hate them dearly. The story, the touchscreen, the graphic... No, no, no and no. They were an absolute nightmare for me!

I liked Phantom Hourglass. Granted, it's been a long time since I actually played it (probably 2008 as a guess) but I enjoyed it at the time.

I liked how it used different parts of the DS for puzzles like shutting the DS to 'paste' something onto the map, or blowing into the mic to make wind happen. I mean they're not exactly mind blowing 'puzzles' but since barely any games ever do something like that I just found it neat.

The game looked like arse but so did most other DS games that didn't use sprites.

Never played Spirit Tracks. I want to, I've just never gotten around to buying it.

I had both when I was younger and Spirit Tracks was better, but both were just ok. I liked the pan flute and Phantom Zelda a lot, but I felt like the games weren't really suited for the DS. Also the games were ugly as **** to look at.

Out of the many Zelda games i've played - these two weren't the best.
But I definitely enjoyed playing them in my free time. Phantom Hourglass was my favorite out of the two, with Linebeck as an interesting character. However I did find it cool controlling ghost Zelda in her phantom form in Spirit Tracks.

Well, to each their own, I suppose.

I personally think it pushed the DS to its limits. While the graphics weren't amazing, I like how they did the best possible, and they were stylized really well. While they aren't my favorite Zelda games, probably not making it or barely getting into my top ten, Spirit Tracks is definitely on my Top Ten Favorite Zelda Stories. The cutscenes were really cinematic, for some reason. I know it will never happen, but I think a new play control version for the 3DS (or the 1% chance of it being on the Wii U) with updated gameplay and visuals would really change some opinions. Especially if they took out/fixed the flute, drawing puzzles, Mic functionality, touchscreen controls, repetitive natures (Transportation/Ocean King Temple), and the stupid "close the screen" puzzle.
If they did that, I think they would make my top ten.
But hey, maybe I'm just nostalgia blind. These were my #1 favorite games when I was a kid. They (I know this sounds cheesy) kind of inspired me when I was younger. Really got me into stories and games.

Phantom Hourglass is one of my favorite and thought the stylus control was fun and unique way to play it. I like Spirit Tracks but for some reason, it felt clunky to me controlling the train as mode of transportation (compared to the ship) so I never get to finish it. Also, I played it right after I completed everything in PH so maybe, I got burned out of playing too much Zelda XD

Phantom Hourglass was fun but it was such an empty world. Kinda depressing.

Spirit Tracks, I definitely enjoyed except for that last satantic pipe flute round. Holy christ.

Truth be told, I hated PH as much as I loved ST. The first was boring and annoying to me, but the second was fun, cute and entertaining. Who knows why.

I did not like Phantom Hour Glass at all but i LOVE Spirit Tracks. Probably number 2 on my top 5 Zelda games list!
