Aww...your teacher should definitely be doing his job more thoroughly. It's a tough, underpaid job for sure, but the whole point is to explain problems. And I've never heard of ripping a student's paper--I hope that's a figure of speech?! (Not that I haven't been tempted a time or two, when it's clear a student has been drunk-typing. Heh.)
I'm oversensitive myself, mostly because of my job. I also see a lot of examples through my husband's work in the corporate world--HR really will just toss resumes if they are badly written, y'all. But I really don't go around pointing at people's grammar if they aren't directly under my care--if I did, I would never get off Facebook!
