Do you get attached to your villagers?

I would say I do! I'm really attached to Willow, Phoebe and Teddy. I'm attached to Willow becuase she was one of my starting villagers in New Leaf, which I started 6 years ago, and I still have her in my town today. As for Phoebe, she was a random move in, and I just really liked her, so I still have her in my town today, and I believe she has been in my town for 4 years! Lastly, with Teddy, I got him as a radom move in from the "Void"/a friends town, who I used to play New Leaf with a lot, so he has a lot of senitimental value to me. I think I have had him for about 5 years too. Overall, I really like the design of all these villagers too.

Orginally for New Horizons, I told myself I could only have one villager that I have in my New Leaf town on my island so New Horizons wouldn't feel too similar to New Leaf, so I picked Willow. Over time though, I eventually relazied how much I loved the other two as well so I told myself that I could also get Phoebe and Teddy. I was able to get Teddy, but I am still island hopping for Phoebe whenever I get the chance!

Fun Fact: I still jump onto New Leaf about once and week and talk to these three villagers (Willow, Phoebe, & Teddy) to try to keep them in my New Leaf town! I love these guys so dearly and I never want them to move away!

I was so so sad when Lolly moved out of my town and I'm still not over it ;o;

I'm so scared to open up my game in case my other favorite villager has left.

I have way too many villagers that i refuse to let go. I have Nate, O’hare, Cube and a few that I’ve been holding for friends. (Currently Pietro).

But I swear that some of the neighbours that I want to leave, for some reason don’t and I have to constantly tell the ones I want to keep to stay.

i got really attached to my villagers when i started new leaf around 5 years ago! it was my first animal crossing game ever and i didn't know anything about ''popular'' villagers and i just liked the villagers that i had. however a couple years later when i did find favorites just because they were cuter, i got those amiibo cards and so i always have them in my town. not really for any other reason but to have cute villagers and villagers that i actually liked. i barely talked to them, i just wanted them to be on the right spot in new leaf.. but with new horizons, not only does everyone's house look better, but seeing everyone in HD made me appreciate how cute they actually are! furthermore, having villagers move in through amiibos is a pain in the butt which can take up to 3 days i believe, so i don't even want to bother doing that. but to answer the question, i'm rather indifferent about who lives on my island nowadays, they pretty much all look cute and i'll always talk to them when i see them :D

Nope!

When I played Population Growing and Wild World, I would ALWAYS get attached to my villagers. I would be devastated if they moved out. I still have a lot of love and nostalgia for the original villagers of those towns, but unfortunately, most of them didn't make the move to the subsequent games. 😢

In City Folk, New Leaf, and New Horizons I find myself struggling to get attached. Their limited dialogue and ever cheerful personalities makes it hard for me to like them. The only thing I feel for them is annoyance and that's when they do things like move in the worst spots imaginable. (Looking at you Diana! I'll never forgive you for moving 2 paces in front of my campsite! 😡)

The only villager I ended up really loving from New Leaf is Diva! She was my first Uchi villager. The day she gave me medicine for my bee sting was the day my dead, cold heart grew two sizes. ❤ I was honestly shocked to find out that she wasn't that popular of a villager.

I get almost too attached to villagers ^^; I'm almost completely mute irl, so I find it almost impossible to form friendships. It feels like I'm genuinely friends with the villagers in my town. I know it sounds quite pathetic, but imagining villagers really helps my mental health. I get pretty upset when they leave. I remember specifically, in my first New Leaf town in 2015, I had Merengue; when she left, I was heartbroken :'] Thankfully I got her back a few months after she left.

i had axel as a starter when i first got my own NL copy back in 2014 i think
anyway, i didn't really care about him much, then he was apparently leaving and i was so upset that i restarted my game (i had julian in my town aswell) 😅

then i logged into my game today and maple had left, i have her amiibo but my sister said i'll have to wait a while before moving her back in which was pretty annoying
i have her on NH anyway so i guess it's fine

i'll never get over axel leaving though haha

I don't think you have to wait to move her in with an Amiibo in New Leaf. I think you can scan her card and ask her to move back in as long as the original Maple has fully moved out (not in boxes but completely gone).

The waiting applies to having her move in naturally through RNG. If you adopt or use Amiibo, there's no wait.

a few years ago i got so attached to keaton haha, he was in my very first town and i remember how upset i got after he asked to leave, i was button spamming and accidentally told him to go, its fair to say i was pretty upset about this and ive been looking for him since

I definitely do! I remember the first time a villager moved out without notice, I was heartbroken, lol. I didn't know they could do that and I hadn't played the game for a little bit due to school. I loaded it up one day to find a goodbye letter from Egbert D: I spent ages forcing myself to cycle through villagers to get him back just for him to leave again askhfkshjksdgh. Fickle chicken. But! I have him in New Horizons and he can't move until I say so, lol.

I definitely have a hard time letting them go. They're so cute and sweet and I love them all to bits, I find it really difficult to cycle through villagers! Which also makes me a bit sad because there are so many lovely villagers in the game! But in my main New Leaf town, for example, I don't think I've let any of my villagers move out in years.

I'm trying to be better about it in my new town, though. I think I'll keep them around and try to get their villager picture before they move out (unless they leave without warning 😔) and then I'll let them move on, so I can experience some other villagers as well.

i guess it's official, i get really attached to my villagers because the most amazing villager is just randomly moving out and i've never been more upset to see a villager leave

it's even worse because idk where my loz amiibo cards are so i can't get him back til i find them and i've been looking for them for so long now 😭

lol nvm the cards were under my bed 😅

Wow, can't believe my little thread is still getting replies! I'm so happy people get attached to their villagers like I do haha

I loved reading everyone's stories about what villagers they love and how they came to love them!!

I got way too attached to Curlos. When I first started playing in May, he moved into my town in the worst spot possible, right in front of the Town Hall. My disappointment grew when I realized he was a sheep AKA my favourite species in the game; if he put his house in literally any other spot I'd maybe, just maybe, had been able to tolerate him.

I never had a smug villager at that point in time so his dialogue lowkey creeped me out since smug villagers sometimes jokingly flirt with the player. He would also constantly either ask me to catch rare bugs and fish for him or ask me to sell rare bugs and fish I had already caught. He didn't really make a good first impression.

There was one time where I tried the "don't talk to the villager at all and hit them with a net so they'll move out" trick, which didn't work whatsoever and all I did was make him sad, which made me sad in return. After that I started being kinder to him, i.e. talking to him every day, doing tasks for him, sitting next to him on benches, etc. The last one doesn't actually impact villager friendship but I wanted to be as nice as I could.

Then after six months of living in my town, he pinged me and asked to move out. I said yes, of course, and it felt like ages between him asking to go and then actually leaving. A few weeks ago I realized "wow, I actually miss that loser, don't I?" so I placed a fountain right where his house used to be, right in front of the Town Hall. And I have to say it looks pretty good.

I tend to like most villagers and get a little attached to them, but not really enough to want to keep most of them permanently unless they're one of my dreamies. I like to get their pictures before they move out so I'll have a little token of their time in my town, but I don't usually mind letting them go after that. One exception is Tom—he was one of my first five villagers when I started New Leaf, and I didn't think I'd want to keep him forever, but as we became friends, he grew on me pretty quickly and I changed my mind. ;v; He was also the first villager I ever got a picture from!

I'm similarly attached to my other dreamies, and while I play pretty frequently and try to keep an eye out in case any of them are thinking about moving, I'm still working on collecting their amiibo cards, just in case. I know I'd be upset to lose any of them, so I like the idea of having their amiibos for extra security.

Also, special shoutout to Moose, who has long since moved out, but who I will forever consider a Good Mouse because he gave me my first apple when I was trying to collect all the different fruit. (From a care package from his grandma, no less!)

i only get attached to my dreamies, some other villagers that i like that id want in my town too, but unfortunately the max villagers we can have is 10. it’s hard saying goodbye to those ones... 😔
