Do you consider the reset trick cheating?

You know when you have less than 9 villagers (or 9 for campsite) you can do the reset trick to get easier the villagers you want (or at least to avoid getting ugly ones) do you consider this is cheating? I mean, those who also play pokemon will understand, I' ve nerver considered resetting a cheat when it comes to get the nature you want for your starter pokemon and many many people do it, but what about animal crossing?

I'd understand why people would think TTing is cheating but that is definitely not cheating. It's so out of my view why anyone would think it is.

Well it's exploiting an unintended side effect of creating a new villager and it's clearly not an intended feature, but on the other hand, who cares? It doesn't hurt anybody and it doesn't give you an unfair advantage* so go for it! It's really handy and downright essential if you've spent real effort on landscaping.

*Unless you're cycling to get specific villagers to sell, but even then that's only be an advantage because the community artificially values some villagers over others.

I don't think it's cheating, honestly it more work than just loading the game, especially if your villager is just as stubborn as you lol

I do. You are willingly doing something the game is not meant to do and it could mess up your game. People havew had their town files screw up by doing this.

I don't see it as cheating, maybe its because I use it myself and my views are blinded but eh.
I digress. Like time traveling, it's something programmed into the game. Maybe they didn't know about this feature beforehand but it exists. If they meant to program it in, I don't think it's cheating

I see nothing wrong with the reset trick. I would do it myself if I had the patience, but I don't.

has anyone actually had their files corrupted by doing a normal reset…? I haven't really heard of that.

my opinion is like others in this thread, which is basically…. no, it's not the purest intended use of the game. However, it doesn't effect other people, only me. I have limited time to play and the negative effect of having a villager randomly move right in front of my beach access or destroy a major garden or path area makes it worth it to me to reset. I know that some people feel that you can just work around it, and that the games designers probably just want you to work around it. And it's probably part of the challenge of the game to work around problematic villager house placement. And I do to some degree. Merengue moved accidentally too close to my beach access. I was able to work around it and I like it to some degree now.

I also thinkt hat the games designers intended for villagers to move in and out relatively frequently. But many of us have favorite villagers who we spent a lot of time or "bells" to try to get on forums, … forums being another thing that wasn't really part of the original game. The idea of "buying" a villager for example. But an entire community(s) have grown up online around the game. The point being, if you play the game more naturally without any additional things, the game will last longer and villagers will move in and out more frequently… so maybe it doesn't matter as much if one villager moves in front of your beach access. They won't stay THAT long right? But I want to keep all my villagers for a pretty long time.

anyway, for me, it's a welcome way around something that would seriously dampen my enjoyment of the game.

It's an exploit, so I guess so, but that doesn't really bother me. I'm too lazy to plot reset, but people who do it aren't bad in doing so. They aren't harming anyone, or taking advantage of anyone else, so who cares? It's like resetting for a shiny Pokemon.
