Real talk: Who actually cares here about their island rating and try to get (or to keep) 5 stars and who not? After I was able to keep a 5 stars rating for like a week, I decided to not care about it anymore and just plan to make one big cedar tree forest behind the museum, regardlessly of what Isabelle will say about it and the fact that I will probably stick with a 4 star rating because of that. (Also, if my villagers missing their favorite "TV program" because of "too many trees" then it's not my problem if they are so dumb to not use the damn path.)

wait does the island rating go down?
i didn't really care about mine until my sister got 5 stars then i decided i was gonna try get 5 stars which i finally did so that's great but i thought once you get 5 stars that's it

the lily-of-the-valleys are pretty, but that's like the only perk....i feel like my island teeters between 4 and 5 stars depending on whether or not i have my turnips "cluttering" up my farm area. but i like my turnip farm, i think it's cute, and i already got the golden watering can DIY so i really have no incentive to keep my island at 5 stars. as long as the lilies still grow for me occasionally, i'm happy.

it can go back down, yeah

Apparently, my town is only worth 2 stars!!! DO YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE IS WORTH 2 STARS? A majority of ratings for Adam Sandler movies. MY TOWN IS NOT WORTH AN ADAM SANDLER MOVIE, YA HEAR.
Yes, I really care about my rating but I want it to go up!!!

Last time I checked I was at 4 stars. I want to get 5 stars eventually, but I'm not really actively trying to get 5 stars right now. I'm just trying to make my island how I like it. Right now I'm still slowly moving my villagers houses.

Nope, dont care. I like wide open spaces and Isabelle wants me to clutter my island with decorations. I got 5 star to get my gold watering can and one lily of the valley then I removed all the decorations that I felt were just clutter. I'm back down to 4 star now and will probably stay 4 star for a while.

I got 5 stars the first time to get the golden watering can recipe. I've done it again to get a Jacob's Ladder, and am going to keep it at 5 stars for awhile so I can get a couple more Jacob's Ladders.

But I don't really care about being 5-Stars permanently, I just like how the Jacob's Ladders look, and am excited to have my own! (I used to trade a lot to get them in NL, never got a perfect town rating in NL.)

No, I'm really not into the Jacob's Ladders and a breakable golden watering can is not something I need either. I'll just decorate my island by my standards, I see no reason for myself to even ask Isabelle about my rating unless it plays into the gameplay/progression somehow.

I like the Jacob Ladder (LoV) flowers and I didn't realise I got 5-star so I guess I'm already there. Will try to keep it for the flowers.

It might have been nice to strive toward first, but TBH, once I saw at 4 Star rating I was getting the "too many tree" messages, I lost interest. I had a new design idea that required me to go get more trees and I had to stop caring. I'd rather my island look neat. Nevertheless, my island is not decorated anywhere near all of the way through, so it might even out someday and that'd be neat, but I don't know, I'm not too worried about it right now.

I'm interested in getting it once and keeping it if it doesn't seem like too much hassle...but it's also not something I'm actively striving for, nor would I be overly concerned about keeping it when/if I do get it. I just want whatever exclusive content comes as a reward, and then I'm good...

yep, i feel this way too! i wanna get it just once for the same reasons you mentioned. i know i can never maintain it because 50% of my map is covered by turnips at any given time lol.

I don't think it matters. My island is currently five stars, and that's nice and all, but if it drops a rating because I decide to plant more trees and weeds, it wouldn't matter at all. That's like saying, what's better? An island that has enough "stuff" to qualify for a rating from a system that can't truly judge how something looks, or something that looks better and that I'm actually happy with? Go with what makes you happy!

Honestly I don't think the 5 star rating is an indicator of anything. Sometimes I see on youtube videos like '5 STAR ISLAND TOUR AMAZING' and most of the time they are sooo boring and lifeless... I'd rather cram a lot of trees everywhere and have a pretty forest town than have one of those weird barren towns filled with tiled open spaces and huge fossils.

I've been stuck on four stars for a few days now. I would like 5 stars, but I'm not going to rush it since the perks aren't very great anyway. Just more breakable tools and some flowers. I love the flowers but it's a lot of work and upkeep just for that. I really don't like the rating system, tbh, I feel like it can make people feel insecure and inferior.

I just want to get it and hold it long enough to get the golden watering can recipe and then after that I don't care. I feel like I'm being pressured into putting a whole bunch of stuff on my island that I don't want just to reach the 5-star rating. I've got furniture and fencing all over the place and still keep getting 4 stars. Isabelle keeps waffling back and forth between more decorations and more fencing and no matter how much I put out, it never seems to be enough.

I wanna get 5 star for the golden watering can and lily-of-the-valleys are one of my favourite flowers. I don’t really care about keeping it though, for I like the idea of open grass fields and I know I want a forest somewhere.

If a 5 star rating wasn’t a roadblock to getting the flower(I know you can trade, but I’m kinda determined to get it myself), I wouldn’t care. I just wanna sprinkle creativity the way I like it.
The rating has its own perception on what needs to be there and what shouldn’t, but I’m the one who’s seeing my island every time I play; I want it to be an island I like looking at, not an island created to please. (If that makes any sense at all)

I honestly don't....i have like 400 hours in game and have yet to terraform a single thing or lay down a single piece of fencing...oops?

It's my island. I want to do what I want with it. If I go based off the star rating, I'm designing my island based on the developers standards.

I want at least 3 so I can get KK but after that, it could flow back to 1 star for all I care.

as long as my island looks nice, i honestly give zero craps about the island rating haha

but i will admit, the lily of the valleys look nice!
