Im struggling with this a lot recently. somehow got it into my head that I wanted no duplicates of species which was a problem because I had 2 cats and 2 eagles in my town. I let kiki go because I have her amiibo card and found lily on a island and I really wanted a frog villager bc theyre so cute and small, but now i'm thinking about having to choose between avery and sterling and im so torn.
I do have a substantial list of what villagers i would try to find to replace one of them (probably a regular bird type, chicken, or alligator) but im fairly attached to them both by now.
On the other end I also entertained the idea of an all bird villager island but ultimately I love wolves, cats and rabbits too much to not have one at all.
I don't really mind having repeat species! I am going for more personalities over species and I just choose the villager(s) of each personality that I like the look of the most.
I don't mind having multiple of the same species. In new leaf I had 6 cat villagers. If I like their design, I'll probably have them on my island, even if I already have a villager of the same species!
That time when i wanted to fill the remaining slots for villagers, i was aiming to get different species of each villager so it's more diverse and i finally did it, but i don't mind having 5 cats or 5 rabbits in my island in the future
I personally would love to have a town of just deer or wolves. Or maybe even dogs or cats. But I like too many villagers of different species to ever have a single species in my main town. But I always have a few of the same types since I have an appreciation of certain species more.
I have 3 cats and 3 squirrels so no. diversity is nice but i'd rather just have the villagers i actually want rather than forcing myself to have a variety.
I don't care about species repeat whatsoever. My primary concern in these games has been to acquire villagers who fit a theme that I've come up with for the town/island, so it's a matter of which villagers would fit best. If there's more than one of a species and both fit the theme, then that's perfectly fine by me.
i don't care about species repeat tbh! i mostly care about personality, and make sure to have 1 of each type and then with extra space i get to have 2 extras of 2 different personality types. :~) atm i have 2 smugs and 2 crankies, and i'm still trying to get a jock, a normal, and an uchi.
Most of the time I try and go for no more than two of a species at once (Preferably a boy and a girl but it doesn’t matter). I may someday go for a all horse island though for fun but it‘s not something I’ve ever done before.
Right now I have two horses, two ostriches and soon will have two squirrels as well.
Edited to add that I also try and at least have one of every personality type in my village at all times.
