I try to have a variety but I end up with same ones because I’m pretty picky species-wise. I tend to like small, cute villagers so they’re mostly squirrels and cubs and some ducks. I also like cats, bunnies, and wolves. That’s pretty much it so I’m bound to have repeats.
I didn’t want repeat species, but I just had a ted but too many cats coming to my campsite and couldn’t resist the temptation to invite them so now I have 3 of them..
I love deer, ducks, squirrels and horses, so I think I will eventually end up with more than one of those. (Really want Static and Blaire, Fauna and Erik, and Bill.) At the moment, I have three penguins (Aurora, Tex and Sprinkle). I don't mind this so much except I don't really like Sprinkle (she is way too similar to my other peppy, Pompom) and Tex.
I aim for variety, but try not to beat myself up about duplicates. If you really like a villager than why pass them up just because you already have that species?
At first I wanted different types but then I got Dobie then Chief moved in randomly and then I found Skye on a NMT tour. So now I kinda wanna get all wolves
I have a couple of duplicates on accident. I don’t mind them. I have two squirrels, two rabbits, two horses, and I used to have two tigers.
Sometimes I think it would be neat to have a one species island, but not all species have every personality and I’d rather have villagers I really like instead of just having them because they are a certain species.
I try to keep a max of two for any species and I currently have 7 species on my island. That said I would break that rule in a heart beat if there was someone I really wanted.
I try to have only one of each species on my island, as well as a maximum of 2 personality types! I like having a variety since the same personality types tend to have very similar dialogue, and clothing looks different on each species. ^^
I was going to have one per species then I got Judy and her and Stitches are both cubs so not anymore lol. I’m going to have two ducks too because duck villagers are so cute in this game!
I have 3 horses (Julian, Colton, and Reneigh) and used to have 2 wolves (Whitney and Chief) and it doesn't bother me at all, those are the villagers I like, at the end of the day what affect dialogue and behavior the most is personality, not the species.
For a second I wanted to have an all squirrel island.
I like having villagers that are all different species, but then sometimes you get Pietro and then you get Willow and, well, you've already come up with a great yard for Pietro, but Willow's a top-tier snooty in your book, and so, I guess here you are. This happened to me in New Leaf, too, with Julian and Papi. Still, species diversity can be handy when you're assembling a dreamie list and have to choose between a few favorites.
I like some variety, so I don't want more than 2 of each type. I originally wanted Diana and Zell on my island but then fell in love with Fuchsia so Diana was replaced, 3 of the same species feels a bit too repetitive imo. My dreamies also consist of 2 wolves and 2 cats.
i'm trying not to have more than 3 villagers of the same species to have some variety but i also don't care that much because what really matters is the fact that i like them. and i already accepted that i'll probably end up with 3 wolves and possibly even with 2 deers at the same time (a mess).
