Do you care about having a “gender balance” of villagers?

I based my New Leaf towns, and now my New Horizons island, around specific themes. What matters to me is that the villagers I choose to live in my town or island fit the theme in some way. As such, gender and personality balance are only secondary concerns.

If I had a full 10 residents and some villager of a specific personality fit my town really well but they were a duplicate of a personality I already had in the town (a second Smug, for example), if there was a "weak link" who didn't fit as much who happened to be filling the personality quota (let's say Peppy for example) , I'd probably try to get whatever I could out of the personality (Public Works Projects in New Leaf, Reactions in New Horizons) and then replace them with the one that fits the theme better.

So for me, it would be Town/Island Theme > Personality > Gender Balance in terms of importance. One of my New Leaf towns is 7 males and 3 females, two of my other towns have 5 of each, and my New Horizons island will (if I don't change my mind on one of the villagers) eventually have a 6 females and 4 males. Whatever works best for the theme works best, so yeah.

I currently have 5 males and 5 females, and one of each personality type with two lazies and two peppies. So even if my goal isn't to have the same number of males and females, it's easy to have that balance if I'm aiming for including every personality type. With that said, I honestly have so many villagers I like, I could easily have an island with only one gender, and if the right villagers comes camping, then it's possible the ratio changes

My dream villagers state that I will end up with a lot of female villagers. (I didn't realise it after reading this thread.)

I was trying to keep my island at 5 Female villagers and 5 Males villagers and that didn't work out like I planned it so i just gave up.
Now I don't really care just don't want it full of one gender tho.

Personally no idc, but I somehow always end up with like 1-2 guys and the rest are girls lol

Biskit, Spike, Kody, Beau, Julian
Reneigh, Audie, Bea, Midge, Vivian

Didn't even realise but I have it perfectly even here lol

I kind of try to have a variety in all aspects of my villagers (gender, personality type, species), but i don't go out of my way to achieve this either. I'm not going to sacrifice having someone I like on my island just because it's going to mean I have 6 females and 4 males or 2 squirrels, for example. There's a few villagers that I keep permanently, but otherwise, I'm happy to let them come and go and meet new faces

I don't really mind the gender balance at all. I'll deal with whoever comes to my island. In my New Leaf town, it was 6 females and 4 males. In New Horizons, it's equal. Again, I'm not bothered by it at all because I'm more concerned about personality variety.

Only in so that I care for personality balance (having at least one of each). Then after that, I do not care what are the 2 extra personalities that settles in my town.

Yes, for the personality balance of one of each type, and then I'll have the remaining 2 spots open for one male and one female.

I like to have at least one of each personality in my island. After I fulfill that, I go after a villager for their appearance (how cute or fun they look).

I definitely don't have mine balanced... I have only 3 females, 7 males. It used to be almost completely the opposite, but when they made every female character basically watered down with normal-type it made me lose interest. I miss the gossip queens, specifically

No I usually only factor in personality balance with one of each personality at all times (I also don't care about species balance). It’s only a coincidence for NH that I ended up with 5 females and 5 males (one extra normal and lazy) lmao. In NL, I believe I had 3 males and 7 females with no jock villagers.

I did want balance so I have 5 of each. If there were more personality types I would likely have more females than males. I just have more villagers i like design wise that happen to be female.

Always gotta be 5:5 for any decision within my control. That said, if I run into someone I absolutely love on a Mystery Island and they're not the gender I'm looking for at that time I'll have to break my rule until I can move out the spare of whatever personality the exception is.

I mean it kinda ties into how I feel about personality types (plus I always try to have at least one of each) as well as whether I'm trying to get certain species, but I do pay attention to the gender balance. I prefer a population that's either 5/5 or 6 male/4 female, generally because I'd rather not have more than one duplicate for female types (namely peppy and uchi). I'd probably consider having either two normals OR maybe two snooties, whereas I could stand to have, say, two crankies AND two lazies and not feel weird about it.

I personally dont care, quite surprised this is a spoken topic! as it stands now i have 5 girls, who are as follows, 2 normals: pekoe, and maple, 1 snooty: whitney, 1 peppy: who is bunnie and lastly my uchi girl, fuschia! i didnt realise i had a gender balance until i was listing them now, LOL!! my boys are as follows, 2 smugs; marshal and raymond and 2 lazies, stitches and zucker!! and 1 jock, dom! im way more focused on having a personality balance.. i need a cranky... AH!
