I hadn't rly looked at a list of all the villagers. When I saw the tier list, and decided I wanted to try to get one of every personality, the tier list did influence my initial decisions. I got Merengue bc I thought she was so cute, but idk I got bored of her quick. Same with Beau. Both very cute villagers, but nothing special about them to me. My tastes are changing to favoring the lower tier babies.
Definitely not, sure some of my dreamies are tier 1 but some are also tier 5, I chose mine on ones I've had in the past, ones that are new to New Leaf and ones I think are cute. Everyone should have their own favorites so the game is more personal to them otherwise I think the game would be a bit stale. Imagine playing with villagers you don't have a bond with... I'd hate that!
Not really. The reason that tier one villagers are there is that they happen to be popular, like the reason anything gets really "in." My favorite villager is a tie between Julian and Victoria, who are tier 2 and 5 respectively. It's annoying that popular villagers become super expensive and that low tier ones get voided, but it's unavoidable since some characters are bound to be more popular than others. It kind of sets up a challenge of trying to find villagers as well. It might not be as fun if everything was super easy to achieve, but at the same time it gets /so frustrating/ sometimes. Finding Victoria took FOREVER, even by searching on tumblr where most of the posts I found were months old. Even the ones at the top of the tag. (oops. tumblr should really date things.)
I didn't even realize there were villager tiers until like, a week ago, after I'd already gotten my last dreamy. I chose a couple of them based on having fallen in love with them in prior villagers, and then based on house exterior, personality (one of each c and overall look.
Not really. I don't really have dreamies. If I don't get a particular character I want, then I won't die of sadness or cry my eyes out like other people make it seem.
No, the Tier list doesn't influence me (luckily). It has to be said the the top Tier villagers are generally loved, they are really wanted in other forums too.
Another reason why people why people insist on having top Tier villagers is maybe to show off wealth and or to make other people jealous
Tier standings really don't affect what I think of villagers, or my ideas of dreamies. Some of my dreamies that I've gotten are higher tier, like Julian, Ankha, or Zucker, but I didn't want them just because they're popular. I've played ACNL for almost a year now, and until pretty recently I haven't even been involved with the ACNL fan base so I wasn't aware of the popularity standings.
I guess for example, I got Phoebe from my camp site this past summer and had no idea of her popularity, I just got her because I love phoenixes. I was really surprised by how popular she is!
Marginally, The only thing about the tiers is that I feel really shallow and have common taste when I have too many Tier 1-2's in my town. Thankfully, I don't have too many dreamies that are highly popular.
Yeah, it has affected me. I really wanted tier one and two villagers because they're cute and everyone talks about how they love them, but I found that I often got really bored with them or they didn't live up to expectations. I had Marina, Merengue, and they just kind of fell flat for me. Then one day I saw Beau in my campsite and I was like yes, he's cute, everyone loves him so I'll get him too, and he's just kinda meh for me ;-; Lately I've picked villagers I think are cute and that I would like, whether they're popular or not.
Of course a lot of people want tier one/two villagers because they think they're cute, or want to show them off maybe - but hey it's their game so let 'em do what they want.
Nope? but it does help when I want to sell a villager. The whole 'popular villager list' things don't bother me, I can't say no to which villagers I truly love C:
I like the villagers I like. I let anyone into my town. I'm sure some of the villagers I like are disliked by most. I love Wart Jr. and I know many people don't like him.
I only found out there were tier lists very recently! I choose based on looks and type and apparently most of my faves are 4-5 tier, heh. However 4 of my 5 starters (still have them) are tier 1-2, and I like them well enough. I would give Marshal the boot if his house wasn't so perfectly placed for landscaping, though. Not that I hate him, there are just other smug villagers I think are cooler and he's my only one atm.
Yes, but in a different sense. I don't want the villager because of the tier they're in, but it can make them harder to obtain because of their popularity. For instance, Celia is pretty low on the tier list which makes her harder to find due to lower demand and makes people less inclined to trade her. Another example is Julian, being in high demand makes him more difficult to trade for.
Only wanting top tiers because they are so popular is just sad, but having all of your favorite villagers be popular is not necessary a bad thing. Molly is one of the most popular characters but that doesn't make me love her more or less. I've loved her since I first saw her. Also, Amelia has always been one of my favorites. I've always seen her as my character's big sister and she is a Tier 5.
People don't want them because they are Tier 1, they are Tier 1 because so many people like them.....unless you just want to sell them but I don't really count those kinds of people.
