What I mean is, did you ever get a villager specifically because they go well with another villager?
It could be as family, friends, romantic partners, etc.
I haven't done so yet but I accidentally got Lucha and Amelia as random move-ins, and after noticing that they were both birds with the same colour scheme, I decided to see if there were any other white and red birds, and now I'm considering looking for Benedict to go with them and have them be a bird family. (Not 100% sure exactly how they are related, probably cousins?)
I have two penguins (Flo and Cube) and two wolves (Freya and Fang). I didn't get them because I thought they'd be a good match, but they accidentally ended up getting on well together. I especially like Fang and Freya being together; they always follow each other, lol.
I know this one is obvious, but I once got Chrissy and Francine in the same town while resetting. Too bad I didn't like that town's layout that much (because of rock placement!).
I really haven't done this at all. Now that I have ten villagers I really like, though, I do enjoy thinking about which ones would get along. I imagine that Deli and Bluebear are good friends, as well as Walt and Willow. I don't "ship" my villagers, though. I can't really think of these cute little animals in a romantic way.
I have this weird theory that the three of them are best friends, and so if I had one, then obviously I had to get the other two.
And before, I used to have Moe and Tom in my town, and I used to think they were brothers. Moe was like the lazy version of Tom, and Tom was the cranky version of Moe. Unfortunately, I had to let them both move out, despite how much I loved them.
The obvious choice of Chrissy and Francine. Also Ruby and Genji (my Animal Crossing OTP) and I had Flurry and Marshal as a couple for awhile, until I gave him to my hubby for his one town.
I've done this a few times and am considering doing it again in the future.
In my all-bird town, I have both Knox and Sterling. They fit the town well and compliment each other perfectly. I like to imagine that they serve as the guards of the town.
I have Ribbot living in my second town and decided to acquire Del because he's the closest looking villager to the robot aesthetic since Sprocket wasn't included in New Leaf. That's a bit of an imaginative quirk of mine since Del actually isn't robotic, but hey.
I'm not a fan of the whole shipping phenomenon and it isn't for romantic reasons, but I also have Marina and Octavian in my main town. It's moreso just because I like the octopus designs.
As for the future, I'm considering moving Beardo over to one of my other towns to make room for Marcel in my main town. I figure he would fit right in with Pietro.
I had the peppy cat sisters Merry and Felicity in the same town until Merry decided to bug out one day.Too much sibling rivalry I guess.
I put Pinky and Tutu together because I thought it would be fun to have two big peppy bears living in the same town. They're Mayor Boot's personal body guards.
I do kind of like pairing my villagers, not in a romantic way but instead I often like to make my villager placements symmetric to a point, so I'd have pairs. This isn't in all my towns, like it's not in Apocalia, but still. I also like having 2 villagers of a theme, whether it's something you can see from their design, or whether it's just me connecting the two somehow
In Apocalia I just kind of associate the two with each other. Daisy and Lucky seem similar and I always considered Daisy kind of a 'nurse' I guess? Tiffany and Monique have a similar style, Frita is an abomination and Egbert is a scientist of sorts. Daisy and Tabby somehow remind me of each other? I think it has to do with their catchphrases being similar. Celia and Sterling are the same species and so are Knox and Broffina. Sterling and Knox are both armored. Drago and Phoebe are mythical creatures. The rest are just color combinations in my third town, for example four of my villagers are yellow, Del and Amelia are dark blue/red etc.
