Deaf or Hard of Hearing

Not me personally, but it's low-key hard for my dad to hear sometimes, it's because of some loud noise that happened in his life long ago, I forgot how I was told it happened.

He doesn't need to use a hearing aid.

Did he use to work construction? Those jobs have all kinds of heavy machinery and tools that can cause hearing loss through time.

I remember one time when I was visiting family, someone was cutting metal wall frames (when they were already supporting a wall) with a reciprocating saw. It was so noisy. Almost borderline painful and they did it for a good bit of the day. And when it was over I swear I could still hear it reverberating in my head. I wanted to kick whoever it was in the butt.

Trust me, I feel that way whenever I hear something so loud. I get like a major headache

No, my dad used to work at an office, now he works at a prison. I forgot what his current job position there is, though.

I'm sorry you had to deal with the loud noise.

I know so many people in general think that every Deaf person needs to wear hearing aids or even getting a cochlear implant. Because this is a hearing world..

But I don't think anyone has really comprehend how extremely hard it is foe the Deaf world sometimes

Loud noises are everywhere
I was just using an example. Probably the worst and nosiest one. It wouldn't had been so noisy if they were cutting the studding before it was attached. Since they decided to cut lengths of it off (numerous times) after the studding was already installed it vibrated through the entire section and rattled

I wasn't even in the room or building and after they were done I kept hearing 'phantom sounds' and vibrations lol.

That's what happens when you're around those things. I cannot stand those because it would drive me crazy...

I will say this through.

There's a famous saying in the Deaf world by I King Jordan which is, "Deaf people can do anything except hear." Many Deaf people agree with that saying and I do too. More often than what I seen. I once had a boss who didn't think that I could be a cashier til after he left. He came back for a meeting at my job and it dawned on him that I can do the job despite the fact I have disabilities. I hate being limited and labeled. As I know many people do..

I'm not bringing this specific topic up for anyone. Just saying what's true to me

I worry about this since it runs in my family. Not at a young age, but around my age my uncle woke up one day with no sound in one ear. My grandmother could barely hear as well, and it was hard on her. She was a musician and loved music more than anything. I guess maybe it's why she chose to bang away on kettle drums in the big church band.

I should probably get my hearing checked. I feel like I can hear fine, but when people talk I have to ask them to repeat themselves once or twice before I know what they are saying. I feel so bad asking them to repeat themselves because I know how annoying it is to have to say the same thing over and over.

I do get what @-Blue- was saying though. I work in the car industry, and many of the mechanics dont wear ear protection and those impact drivers are loud over and over all day. Mechanics have a lot of hearing issues eventually, among other physical ailments. Keep that in mind if you think your mechanic seems to be charging too much... its probably not enough to be honest.

I work with my dad fixing cars and if I need to be around an impact hammer, I need to put in ear plugs because the noise messes with my autism and disorients me pretty badly. I also do it partially for hearing protection. Luckily my dad’s hearing is fine as he only uses those tools as a last resort as he’s more into trying to remove parts from cars in one piece so it is easier to put back together which means we typically use a torch to loosen up rusted bolts and some rust breaking oil.
