Oh man, this corruption stuff is freaking me out. So sorry.
I must ask though, was your town in the physical copy or the downloadable?
It was actually a physical copy. Which was why it shocked me so bad. I guess I didn't expect it to happen to me because it happens mostly to downloadable copies. ._.
Thanks so much for the kind words, everyone, it means so much. ♥ I'm going to reset like crazy today to find my 'perfect town'. I don't have any requirements besides nice neighbors, and a decent layout. No specifics like last time, though. Ruins the experience for me when all I do is obsess over the small details. I'm just stressed as to what I'll do regarding my town name and character name. I usually use my real name, Samantha, but I was thinking of using something else to change it up a bit. As for town names, I'm completely lost.

Aw man I'm so sorry I can tell you from experience that losing your town isn't fun, however, with the right motivation you can get back on your feet Im thinking of starting a cycling thread soon so If you need ANYTHING at all just let me know and I'll be happy to help!

Oh, my god I feel so sorry for you! I don't know what I would do if my save file corrupted *-* Probably cry...just cry... I really hope you can find another nice layout
And to everyone who's concerned about corrupting their save file: It was Wondrous own fault (I do NOT mean to offend you! ) because they hit the power button while the game was still saving (and it always says "DO NOT PRESS THE POWER BUTTON!"). So just take your time while saving! And maybe don't do the villager reset trick (I#ve heard of corrupted save files because of that, too). We can only hope that Nintendo will give us an opportunity to backup our cities as soon as possible! (Seriously, we should start a petition for this *o* I'm sure everyone on TBT would sign!)
Again I don't mean to offend you, Wondrous. I feel for you and knowing that corrupting your save file was your own mistake is probably even harder than the case that you couldn't do anything to prevent that or that it was just bad luck. I'm just trying to comfort the ones fearing for their save files.

I have a question. You hear a lot about having to be extremely careful when turning off the game while saving in AC, and many people with corrupted games because of it. I have a game called... Colors 3D, was it? Anyway, sometimes I doodle for a bit, then turn off without saving because I didn't make anything more than colored squiggles. The 3DS won't shut off until the game had saved my 'art' though. You can see it take much longer than usual to shut down when I turn off without saving, and when I go back later my scribble is saved.
My question is, why can't Animal Crossing do something like this and not allow the 3DS to shut off until it's done saving, if the power button is pushed during a save?

No I know that, Korra. But it's not like I did it on purpose. It was a mistake, I pressed it a bit too early as I was in a rush to go somewhere. It's very unlucky that the one time I did this, my data corrupted. I'm in no way offended by what you said, don't worry. ^^'

Ah, thats horrible! When you invest time and creativity in something and its just get taken away from you like that.... Sadly my internet doesn`t work correctly so I can`t help you out in the item part, but if you dream of my town, you should find Wendell cause I share my designs, I think that also means paths are free?

That's just awful, I'm so sorry that happened.
Never assume it can't happen to you because it's on a different copy. It's the same game and the developers are not allowed to make one version better than the other. Many people have had corruptions of physical copies, and the corruption number is on the rise.

Hai! I don't mean to necro this post or anything, but periodically i've been looking on information regarding corrupt towns in hopes to someday restore my town. I'm sure my villagers miss me T^T
But, I wanted to post because I wanted to sharethat my town became corrupt after 200+ hrs invested in it, and NOT by meddling with the DS power while it was saving. I have a physical copy and I rarely turned off the DS, so every morning after 7am whether I turned the game from sleep mode while outdoors in my village, or if left a house, the game would automatically save. On one of those instances I did precisely that.. I'd spend time at my house sometimes simply listening to my K.K. music collection, and when I stepped out of my house my game started saving automatically -- except it never stopped saving and it gave me an error asking me to restart X_X since it stopped responding after a while I restarted it. When I tried to load my town Isabelle warned me that the town should be deleted because it's corrupt. It was so depressing! So i've been checking periodically in the rare hopes that I can restore it............ maybe.
If not I was considering purchasing another copy and leaving this one as a relic. Though the idea of starting over just has a bitter taste after all the time I had invested! But I'm missing the October events and Jack........ I've been trying to forget about it by breeding in Pokemon. T_____T
TLDR: Not interrupting saves does not guarantee that the save will not be corrupted. It's best to maintain best habits of patiently waiting without meddling with the power, but for all you know it could all go bonkers one day
