I think I probably changed my rules a lot as I went through, but basically I looked for forest creatures (deer, wolves, squirrels, etc.) with colors and houses that weren't too obnoxious. "Forest" is a pretty broad theme, though, so you could probably add or remove some.

I don't know every villager off the top of my head but I do highly recommend Maple, Lily, Deirdre, Fauna, Beau, Erik, Marshal, Pecan, Chief, Wolfgang, Kiki, Molly, Hazel, and Kyle since their colors are natural. If you don't mind less natural but still subdued I also recommend Bruce, Beardo and Stella. Lots more to choose from though, but I hope this helps c:

I tried to go with villagers who had more natural-looking coloring (no super bright colors) but that's kind of hard to do. I think bears, birds, cubs, deers, ducks, eagles, rabbits, squirrels, and wolves will fit the theme the most. I think Uchi is the hardest to match for a theme because Deirdre isn't the best looking lady and Hazel has bright coloring and that blue in her ears. You don't need to have every single personality unless you're looking for their specific PWP, though. Good luck!

Melba was nice. I shouldn't have gotten rid of her, but oh well. I like to cycle through my villagers and one had to go, so I let her be the "sacrificed" one.

If you find Koalas cute, get her.

2. Go on your own instinct. (You will get a feel for the overall identity of the town and be able to determine who is needed.)

Yeah, like for example, atm I have 3 smug and 3 lazy villagers in my time. I have zero uchi, snooty or normal villagers. That's why I'm trying to get rid of one or two of my current villagers hoping I'll get two of the types I don't have any.
