Custom path rant

Ok so I used to use custom stone paths - but I don't anymore! THEY SHOULD MAKE AN OPTION WHERE IF YOU USE THE TERRAFORMING CUSTOM PATH OPTION, YOU CANNOT WIPE THEM OUT! This is seriously driving me insane and the fact that they make no sound when you run over them anyone else agree?

i agree 100% - i like my custom path but i hate how they wipe away and the lack of noise :c

Umm, yeah, 100% agree. I swear, the custom paths at my entrance need fixing constantly because I keep leaning down to pick up trading items, and erasing part of the path instead. The lack of sound bothers me less since I often play muted (weird, I know), but gosh I'd love a fix for the paths.

Yess! I hate that! My island use to be mostly custom path but I got so tired of wiping them away (especially when I had visitors) and hearing no noise I just settled for a stone.

Yeah that's why I only use custom paths for dirt, grasses and flowers - the soft thud sounds make sense to me with those textures. I cannot get into custom pavement stones or bricks though, because then that soft thud just feels weird to me!

That was my problem too when I was first picking between whether to use custom paths or in game paths. It was like choosing between aesthetic vs satisfying sound + convenience, in the end I gave up on the sound. I really love my custom paths and have gotten used to the no sound but hopefully they fix the wiping thing soon, I can see that is annoying. Although I don't accidentally wipe the paths off that much because when I'm picking up an item, I usually wait a bit to see the name of the item and then I pick it up.

I did the Pikachu surprised face meme when I accidentally kicked away one of my paths. I assumed that because the other paths can't be wiped away that custom ones couldn't be either. So yeah, that sucks. The lack of noise always tweaks my ears out too.

That's a cute idea! At the very least, have preexisting sounds for the paths already in the game that you could pick from. Like if it's a dirt path, you could make it sound like the dirt path in the game.

I made one and you can't round the edges.

I thought they were supposed to emulate the already fake dirt paths in the 'designer'.

Why you don't need to open the island designer app to remove custom paths, I have no idea!

It's a REALLY weird choice by Nintendo.

I would lay down a normal brick/stone path first and then custom path on top... Bit tedious but works for the sound issue.

custom paths still make the squishy sound even if you put them over brick or stone paths.

for those saying there is sound, well the sound is barely noticeable though. comparing it to the actual official paths. i remember this not being an issue in new leaf which is weird.

i don't get why nintendo decided to make it still like this when paths are officially part of the gameplay now. i thought they'd act normally like the in-game paths, not like the old ones where we could wipe it out of the way.

the only positive thing i see coming out from this is you can put custom path on top of official paths.

I wish there was a way to set sounds with the paths in the designer app. I really enjoy the sound effects on the stone and wood paths.

I also wouldn't mind if we could lock in both paths AND fences in the designer app as well.

I really dislike how you can kick away the custom paths, I don’t mind too much about sound but would be nice to have an option to change it.
I don’t understand why the custom paths you place via the construction app are able to be kicked away as if you’d placed them just as a design on the floor, I was excited to use that feature because Ive hated kicking up my custom paths since the first AC game I played.
It’s definitely something I hope they change in a QOL update.

I thought I was a little crazy when I decided against using custom paths (was thinking of going for the "road" look) because of the lack of sound (or at least, the awful sound they make). Glad other people noticed it too. I like the brick paths.

I agree, it's kinda dumb that they can be accidentally erased so easily even when you use the terraforming tools I use the stone paths and custom borders, so I still have the sounds but I always erase the borders by accident when I pick up tree branches. It's super annoying
