May I enter? I really love this contest! it's unique and it gives creepy vibes. i'd love more giveaways/contests like this.

This is a long term contest so it may do you some good to discuss in this thread.

The Problem is that you don't even know what your supposed to solve. I mean like you just say "Solve the true mystery behind Moonlite" but what mystery?

Figure out what's up with the town. What's going on in the houses?

The smart detectives will look at my signature a bit more closely now...

Well, this has happened three times so far, I may as well address this issue now.

Please make sure you have room in your inbox when sending me a pm to enter. That is all.

Everybody is saying "Murder me" except Diana... And I don't think she means it when she says "Good luck."

Maybe the shady deal was with her?

Also, Diana has the unsettling and mysterious picture quote of "Sometimes you have to lose to win."

Or maybe I just subconsciously hate Diana. I dunno.

ok hi
When you wake up you can dress up as a cop. I follow the path to the bottom right of the town and start digging up the holes by the torches. Everything up to til the last one is fossils, when I dig up the last hole it's a silver axe. I'm going to guess that the fossils are bodies and the axe is the murder weapon. Continuing up we see the hotel (is that even the hotel? i cant tell), not too far from the bodies. It looks like your pretty average hotel until you go upstairs. There's a blood stained pillow and someone with a molecule. Zooming in on the pillow, it looks like they either spat out blood and drank something bad (hence the bottle next to the pillow) or lost an eye. I would think it lost an eye because of the molecule (maybe you're trying to show that it only has one eye?) but whatever. Downstairs there is randomly a lounge with paint on the floor. I think the paint means something, but I'm not sure what. There is the camera facing the paint as well, but I can't tell what it means. I decide to head back up near the train station and find myself in the forest. I dig up all the holes and they're mostly all pitfalls, except for one gyroid. I think the gyroid is supposed to be a body maybe? Or some evidence buried. But I think the gyroid was someone who talked or warned visitors so they killed them. The pitfalls near the police station are supposed to block visitors from getting help or escaping. At the police station you see a book, so I guess it's someone's personal belonging before they got killed. If we head over to the right to Misery's house we see a bottle of cider under the flower arch. I would assume that the bottle is supposed to make visitors drunk, as the first room seems to be some sort of bar. In the back you hear relaxing music with 2 beds..with hospital equipment next to one of the beds. I think they drug the victims and keep them in that room until it's their time. So, they get drunk in the main room and are dragged back and kept in there until it's their turn. To the left we see a monitored room with computers and such. It reminds me a bit of a bank. Maybe the villagers make their deals there? Downstairs is probably the experiment/killing room. After they drug and knock out their visitors, they take them downstairs and either perform experiments on them or kill them. Perhaps they sell their organs? We can see a little tombstone and a skeleton hanging, so yeah. I'm assuming the crates hold the bodies or organs.

I talked a bit with the villagers and they all say "murder me". (Except Diana, but I don't think that's on purpose) Lopez, Marshal, Static, and Fauna all have bloody shirts. There are 4 bodies, so I'd say they were the ones who had something to do with it. But they all say "Murder Me" which is strange, so I don't think they really wanted to hurt anyone. I don't think the town wanted to kill anyone at all, and want someone to puts them out of their misery. I visit the mayor's home again and think about it for a second. The pattern on the pillow seems to be something was spat out, so I'm going to go with my eye theory. The eye was ripped out perhaps? But that doesn't explain the drink. I don't know much about the backroom, but it looks like someone was planning something. I like Franzi's idea of painting a new town or something like that. Perhaps the mayor didn't like how the town lived to their expectations, and tried their hardest to make it perfect. They seemed to have studied a lot and had written letters. But in order to achieve their dreams they had to kill people, but why?
i dont even know which house is the hotel..lmao
but tldr: villagers do the mayors dirty work because the mayor cant achieve their vision of the town alone
im prbably like way off and overthinking things a bit but oh well
cool town

I won't confirm anything as right or wrong but I will answer this one question because I thought it was kinda obvious.

Mystery is the mayor's house.
Misery is the hotel.

OKAY i was confused because mystery reminded a bit of a hotel ok ok im sorry ):

Alright, it looks like my answer was wrong, so I might as well post it here in case it contains any vital clues anyone may have missed:

{Alright, so I'm thinking the villagers themselves tell part of the story. Fauna... Diana... Phoebe... Static... Marshal... Whitney... Beau... it seems like the Mayor was an idealist, and, based on her house, had plenty of money to buy her dreamies. But what happened to the other 4 starting villagers? The town tree reveals that Diana was one of the 5 starting villagers, but none of the others remain. Note the grave markers to the south. Four of them contain fossils (the universal AC symbolism for dead bodies)... while the fifth contains a silver axe. Axe probably means Diana is our murderer. Why a silver axe, though? Maybe it’s a biblical reference to betrayal. In the Christian Bible, Judas Iscariot betrays Jesus, his longtime friend and teacher, to those who seek to arrest him. He does this in exchange for thirty pieces of SILVER.
Now we move on to the hotel. If you head into the basement, you can immediately see that something is amiss. There’s a bunch of science lab equipment and OH MY GOD THATS A DEAD BODY BEHIND THE BOXES IN THE CORNER. Then, in the back bedroom of the hotel, one of the beds has an IV and screens around it… You know, that stuff they only let guests use if they are deathly ill… The question is, is this the fate of the disappearing guests? I think so… I believe Diana did not truly axe-murder these victims, and the axe was purely symbolic for murder in general. Poison is more likely, due to the basement “mad scientist lab” with its flasks and… microscopes... Caustic chemicals or poison could have caused deadly illness, and could have been mixed in with drinks from the hotel bar.
The last thing in this mystery is motive. If my assumptions are correct, the original mayor sacrificed her original villagers to get her dreamies. However, she neglected the feelings of the original villagers… Except for Diana, who is super-popular. Here there are two possibilities. Either A) the deaths of the 4 other starting villagers were symbolism for their moving out, or B) Diana actually killed them because she was paranoid that the mayor liked the others more than her… (A) is probably more likely, as it allows the story to more logically progress. Diana most likely killed no animals, just human guests. She killed the mayor out of pure hatred. The mayor had come into the town one day and kicked out Diana’s neighbors and probably longtime friends. Diana then seized power over the town, building a trap hotel, luring the humans to visit… and meet their slow, sickly demise. A human had driven away Diana’s friends, and the humans had to pay. This was the “shady deal” that the villagers made. They all regret this decision and the web of lies that they have to hold up while pretending everything is fine in the town. They regret it so much that they sometimes wish somebody would come and, in their words, “Murder me.”

tl;dr ~ Diana is a vengeful psycho bee-otch who wants to exterminate humans because her mayor kicked Diana's friends out of Moonlite to make room for dreamies.}

I like Tsundere's "perfectionist village" idea, though, because it makes sense with the town having mostly your typical dreamies living in it.

I think I read a bit too far into Diana's divergent catchphrase.

...Or is that what Mystery wants me to think?!?

ooh i didnt even think to check the town tree.
i think its interesting that diana is the only starter and doesnt say murder me..i just thought that the mayor had given up heh. (how do people even use the different font anyway?)

i really want to know what the paint means.. perhaps the mayor couldn't paint the town they wanted. or maybe im thinking about it the wrong way... and what does the book mean? and the gyroid that was in the forest.. i feel like these 3 items mean something idk.

though if we go with your idea with diana being the killer then why do the 4 villagers have bloody shirts? maybe they do someone's dirty work? or are they like ghosts roaming around lol. would they share the same hatred that diana had? i felt like someone forced them to do something
