Console versus Handheld Functionality

With the sales today and loyalty point for a store, I can get a good deal on a Switch. I think I want the Switch Lite, but I wonder if it will affect any sort of play for New Horizons. Will I be limited in any way?

The only thing you’ll really be limited by is not being able to play on your TV. Other people have mentioned that the Switch Lite’s have issues with joycon drift, although it seems to be mostly hearsay so far.

Something else to consider is a Switch Lite for New Horizons may get announced, so if you got a regular Switch now you won’t feel as guilty about buying that limited edition Lite if it comes.

• The Switch Lite cannot connect to a TV. So don't ever expect to play your games in HD
• The Switch Lite has fixed controls. If you need to send the JoyCons for reparation, you will need to send the whole console instead of the JoyCons only
• If you plan on playing multiplayer, get the normal Switch, because buying an extra set of JoyCon controller with a Switch Lite will cost you the same as buying a normal Switch
• The Switch Lite has a smaller screen than the normal Switch
• The Switch Lite has a shorter battery autonomy than the normal Switch
• The Switch Lite does not come with a dock for easy charging

That's what shaving a $100 from your purchase will cost you. I say it's not worth saving $100. If you want to save money, consider buying a preowned normal Switch.

I mean, if you can live with the points Boccages mentioned, then go for a Lite. Otherwise, I would recommend the regular Switch, as I think you will have a better experience with it in my opinion.

The appeal of the switch is being able to play it on a big screen in HD as well as handheld. That AC experience on a big screen will definitely be a huge factor of enjoyment for a lot of users. That said, for all this time that I?ve owned my switch I have only played on the TV once or twice because I prefer handheld and also because I rarely have access to a TV to dock it to. If you are used to playing games on handheld, playing ACNH on a switch lite will probably not make much difference. My only concern is the drifting joy cons issue will be even more troublesome and expensive if it happens to the switch lite, since you can?t merely replace the joycons itself. I?ve gone through two pairs now even after I thought I took good care of the joy cons so they don?t get dust or dirt in them. I would hate to replace the switch lite or send it in just because of those issues. Reading reports of drifting lites means that Nintendo didn?t do much to address the issue and it?s still an inherent design flaw. I do think that the switch lite is a cute looking handheld and I would even consider getting it if a special edition for ACNH came out. But I feel like it would be a bigger gamble than if you got a regular switch. I would say to get a regular switch if you have the extra to spare.

You should check out the reviews on Amazon. According to what I've read, if you have a Nintendo account profile listed under a parent's or guardian's Nintendo account, you can't access those games or your profile on the Switch Lite. Only the parent's profile will be accessible. Also not all Switch games are available to be played on Switch Lite. Off the top of my head, I know that Super Mario Party is not playable on the Switch Lite and there's a whole list of other games that aren't playable as well.

Only the parent's profile will be accessible. Also not all Switch games are available to be played on Switch Lite. Off the top of my head, I know that Super Mario Party is not playable on the Switch Lite and there's a whole list of other games that aren't playable as well.

I would also think that Ring Fit Adventures would not be playable on Switch Lite. Besides, all multiplayer games would be painful to play on the Switch Lite. Tabletop mode is not that convenient for multiplayer sessions. The screen is just too small.

I Would purchase a full switch, as with the joy con drifting issue, nintendo is/was fixing joy cons free of charge in some places, but they aren't removable on the switch lite, and drifting being an issue on the switch lite as well, you would need to send away the entire console for repair.

Honestly nintendo, fix the issue permanently, and release a switch or joy cons without the joy con drift.

They bought out a newer main switch with a longer battery life earlier this year, I don't see why they didn't fix the joy con issue then.

Is it because they can't?

I can’t send my cons in because I already replaced the left joy con stick, so I wouldn’t benefit from the replacement...

Thanks for all these thoughts. Probably the only game that will be played on my Switch is NH. I think if any Myst series type game came out for the Switch I might play that as well (I already played The Eyes of Ara on my tablet before I found there was a Switch version.) I like handheld and "on the go" and think the Lite looks good for that. My son thinks I should get the console so we can play Mario Kart. However, my son is usually away at University so that is not a major concern LOL.

I do see that the Switch console available around here this weekend is bundled with the Mario Kart game and I understand it to be the one with lesser battery life.

I think a unit with a NH design would be cool, but perhaps less discreet for playing in public.

The deal this weekend would be I used up 250 dollars worth of loyalty points and get 150 in loyalty points back. Taxes would be over and above that. This makes the cost of whatever I buy very attractive to buy this weekend. But if I thought there would be an improved version before NH cames out I might hold out. I guess it is a gamble right now.

i definitely would just go for the normal switch, that way if u get joycond rift u can either replace them, get them fixed or just buy a simple wired controller. However, be weary that even wired controllers can get the drift, as my pretty princess peach one has got it, but i have got another one now for like $34 and its pikachu themed so i'm pretty happy. Also the original switch does have a bigger screen which is better for gameplay in my opinion.

tbh, i would just go for the switch lite if you're just gonna use new horizons. you'll only lose split joy con multiplayer and you also save 100 bucks. i really think it would be worth it to just go for the lite... plus there's cute colors and its so tiny and adorable
