bump! just over one hour to go!
This poem is so beautiful, and I truly believe you heard her voice. special people in our lives stay around forever, even after they have departedI hope it's okay if I use an older work. It is the one that means the most to me. ❤
grace and beauty
personified
she is as beautiful
as each blossoming tree
basking in and living for
the sun's warmth and love
with each ray that comes
she embraces it
makes it her own
then gives it back to those around her
so that they may feel warmth and love
the short days of winter
are no match for her strength
her barren branches still show
her souls warmth
just enough
to make the darkness of winter
feel her presence
the cold winds love her and watch over her
why shouldn't they?
she is the warmth they've never had
and even though she bears no blossoms of life
she is still beautiful
transcending all the seasons
with grace and beauty
personified
I wrote this for my grandma shortly after she passed in 2017. I ended up delivering it at her funeral, only hours after writing it. It may sound sad, but it isn't - I love my grandma and I still hear her voice occasionally. I heard her tell me how beautiful my son is a couple of months after he was born. ❤
foreverfox, your poem felt so real and heartfelt, a true masterpiece. well done!the dove and the earthworm
a snowy dove waits in a field of flowers,
impatiently cooing beneath a shed
her wings are splattered with raindrops and dirt,
but she promised to wait for her friend
her earthworm companion wanted to go home together,
but they can only crawl so fast
so the dove settles in for what feels like years,
and waits for the storm to pass
it’s midnight when the worm finally arrives,
forever unfazed by the weather
“don’t you worry,” calmly says the worm,
“we can wait out the storm together.”
“but it’s pouring outside,” cries the dove,
“why didn’t you bring an umbrella like i said?”
the worm silently stares at her for a long moment before sighing,
“...dove, i have no hands.”
i have no idea what this is xjfjdk
firesquids, I love this too much. I never expected such a well-done haiku. it may seem simple, but I love the respect for nature. I just adore it!I hope it's okay if I use an older work. It is the one that means the most to me. ❤

My neighbor complains,
but the oak tree was here first
Rake the leaves yourself
congratulations! make sure to contact me for receiving your prize!Flame-colored leaves dance on an icy breeze,
Glowing with life as they fall from dying trees,
Fluttering past branch and briar,
They blanket the earth with warmth; a quiet wildfire.
White as ash on the wind, the first snow begins its descent,
Clouds like smoke smother the sky without relent,
A world of grey, a forest scorched bare by frost,
Autumn's blaze, now cinders—sparks not yet lost.
Deep beneath their ashen cover, silently, they burn.
A break in the clouds; glimmering sunlight's return,
The ice melts, gone like morning dew,
And the spring-green undergrowth bursts forth anew.
