Can you use Amiibo in their box?

I remeber with Skylanders you could still use them while there in their box...

Aww that's a shame. Is it like that on all Amiibo, even the yarn Yoshi ones?? Because the yarn Yoshi ones have patches for their scan thingy.

The Shovel Knight amiibo CAN be used within its box.

If you really must keep it in the box you could try this surgical procedure to remove the sticker:
