Why don't they grow?
I normally do a path where the bushes are now, but because Stitches lives near the cliff I think that they will not grow if I put them one space down. But now they don't grow anyway ;_;.

I have a feeling they will, yes, because when I replanted mine close to the rocks again, they died just like before.

If they're palm (coconut or banana) trees, they'll only grow on the beach.

Otherwise, unfortunately, it's a space issue.

I think it might also have something to do with the fact that they'd be blocking the front of his house (I know that you can enter from the side but I think the game was probably programmed to not allow anything to be planted there).

They're too close to the house. They won't grow that close. And it's that way with edging. Plant bushes north/south or east/west, for a path flow (or just creative design), and the game doesn't let you take it all the way to the edges. That picture tells us that even where you planted them in front of the house just won't grow. I think it makes the game limiting in that respect.

Because they're too close to the house; they need to be one space away. But where your character is standing is a space that 'belongs' to the house (you can't plant anything there) so too close. You'd need to move them one space down but then they'll die too because too close to the cliff. (I have the same problem with my Stitches, so I've planted flowers there.)
