Yup u definitely can! there are no restrictions on tools you can use based on how many stars your island is

I got gold roses on my three star island by using a gold watering can I got from a friend on black roses that I grew. So the answer to your question is yes, it should work.

Getting a gold tool from someone else will trigger a Nook Miles reward, FYI. You just have to touch it, the goal isn't for getting the recipe or crafting it yourself. Just be aware in case you want to trigger it by earning it yourself for any reason, e.g. to memorialize the date you attain that particular criteria.
