Hello folks,

I think I may have a problem. I have a switch lite, I bought it just over a month ago just to play new horizons.

Recently I have begun having an issue with the left analog stick, it doesn't properly register when I move it to the right.
This results in a slow to fast juddering run movement when I'm playing.

This video shows exactly how it looks in the calibrate menu :

Normally I wouldn't be too bothered, I can return and swap the device...

However I have read animal crossing will not transfer to a new device?
Is this correct?
If I return my lite and exchange it will I lose my island and have to start over? Or is there a way to transfer my game save to the new device?

Currently you can't transfer over save data (from Animal Crossing) to another Switch. All other game data will transfer over but you lose AC. I don't know if this has been fixed, but some have tried and lost their progress. Nintendo will probably fold with enough complaints.

It's correct. I had to start again because the system transfer does not carry over Animal Crossing save data, and obviously does not provide cloud backups.

Nintendo kind of confirmed they'll have a service for situations like this eventually, but we've not heard anything about it since as far as I know - so currently, you'll have to start again.

Nintendo says this:
Animal Crossing: New Horizons does not support the ability to transfer your save file from one Nintendo Switch console to another. However, a function specific to Animal Crossing: New Horizons to move users and save data to another console is planned in the future.

It's horrible that they can't even amend it by making some kind of temp cloud to hold people's data. They could even have the player send Nintendo some kind of waiver form so that they can't use the temp cloud for malicious use. And then when the new switch gets the data it deletes it from online.

Forgive me as i dont know much about the switch lite, but perhaps if youre desperate buying a pro controller might help in the mean time? is that possible with the switch light?
obviously money is a factor though

It was a given that the Nintendo Lite would have controller and drift issues. They use the same materials that the joycons use. So problems would arise eventually. As long as that is the only issue hold off. Nintendo did say they are making amends to this.

This is kind of disgusting in my opinion if something happens to your switch bye bye data people knew this before animal crossing new horizons came out cos it got leaked I hope Nintendo does an update in the future or they do something about save data.

I'm still disappointed by it. I have the original Switch. Whenever I play (doesn't matter if it's 5 minutes or an hour) The system starts venting horribly. I made a topic once asking people if their systems were overheating like that and I know it's not overheating, but it was the only way to attract enough views.

I was glad to know that I wasn't the only one, but it was 50/50. I don't want all my hard work to go up in flames one day because my Switch can't handle the game anymore. It's crazy that a simple game like AC causes my system so much of a fuss but BOTW with it's expansive world never made it do that. And BOTW had so much more going on.

Thank you all for your replies

The problem isn't gamebreaking yet as I can still control my little character, and it never fully stops me from moving.
So I think I will wait and see if the transfer feature you mentioned becomes a thing and go from there

Thank you again

I don't have a lite. Can you link more than one controller to the system? You could look around and buy yourself a third party pro controller.

And Yes Moon, it is sometimes hot to the touch, but most times hot air is blowing constantly out of its port.

Yes you can do so, and it is definitely an option I can fall back on if needed :)

I will persevere with it for now though.
Right now due to all the covid problems, returning my lite for an exchange is not something I will do as it is not an essential need.
So I will wait and if/when Nintendo make it possible to swap I will buy a switch console and swap over, them send my lite off to Nintendo for repair then I can have two islands! 😊

And that's why the switch lite is a load of...
Joycon drifting seems more like an inevitability than a chance, and yet they still decided to build a console with built in joycons.
I'm sorry but yeah you're screwed out of luck, unless they can repair it without wiping the data, but with corona around their repair centers are down.

Ive heard a little wd-40 oil at the base of the joystick helps solve this issue, but i havent tried it yet myself!

as someone with an original switch that has terrible drifting issues i just use the pro controller as it doesnt seem to have the same drifting issues and, if it does drift, ive heard the fix is much easier. good luck though! hopefully you'll be able to get it sorted and if not, nintendo will release some sort of cloud backup
