Has anyone else here bred their own blue roses from scratch? I got my hybrid reds from purple & orange roses no porblem, but all my hybrid reds are breeding are more reds. I have two jacob's ladders down and put in a fertilizer everyday, but it's been 3-4 days with no blue rose yet. What am I doing wrong?

I just figured people said they were hard because you had to breed hybrids from hybrids from hyrbids. I didn't realize that even breeding the proper hybrids together wouldn't give you a blue rose except for rare ocassions D:

3-4 days? It took me over a year to get blue roses. lol i don't really remember where the hybrid reds came from... all I know is that I made sure to grow them on the beach since villagers can sabotage you by planting their own flowers and they're less likely to plant flowers on the beach.

Anyway I'd recommend enacting the beautiful ordinance if you have a lot of flowers and only watering the pairs of hybrid reds. That'll increase the spawn rate and therefore increase your chances.

Also something worth nothing happened that I'm 99% sure was just a coincidence. Days before I got my blue rose I made sure to plant every other flower variant in my town (all rose, lily, carnation, ect colors)

If it makes you feel better for trying, once you get them, they breed with themselves like crazy Q.Q they're unstoppable!

I think if you breed purple and orange roses together they can make blue.

You have to breed orange and purple to make hybrid reds, then breed those reds together to make blue. -.-

I definitely have the Beautiful Town ordinance, and am breeding on the beach! I didn't think of having all other varieties though... that may be hindering me if true, I mostly keep orange, white and black flowers in this town and sell whatever else pops up.

I've had no luck, either, but I'm not really trying too hard, and there might be some non-purple/orange reds in the mix. Have also set it up so I have some other combinations that I believe worked in previous games, but those haven't worked yet, either. :/

Either way, good luck with yours!

I did the exact same thing you're doing. I had the fence pwp and put in two Jacobs ladders and fertlizer and watered only those roses everyday. I gave up after like 10 tries and someone on these forums was nice enough to give me 6 blue roses and I just started breeding those. and like previously said, once you do get blue roses they multiply like craaazy.

Eeeek, I might have to buy a breeding pair then D: What a waste of bells

since someone was kind enough to give me some, I'll pay it forward :] I can give you 4 to start off if you'd like. I would offer more but I just had someone buy my entire hybrid stock so I'm very low xD

x.x Would you really? That's so kind of you, oh my gosh. Let me pay you for them though alright?

I tried for 2 months using any known method in the book and still didn't succeed. I can tell you it's purely luck based and has a very small chance of occurring.

Every time I ended up quitting and just buying a pair, I mean, why try to breed flowers that take more than 2 months to make while you can make the money to buy a pair within a day. :)

Even though the beautiful town ordinance increases the chance, it has the downside that your villagers will start watering flowers all over the place, meaning that flowers you didn't intend will breed instead of your roses.

That's one of my biggest pet peeves, especially in certain areas of my town. I'll finish landscaping one part and go to plan for another only to see it overrun with red and white and pink tulips and... why? Because Kiki waters them every day, that's why. Never mind that she has a gorgeous pair of purple roses in front of her house she could be tending to. >.>

I've been trying to breed blue roses too :T I started out with one special red rose, have been planting fertilizer every day and watering with my gold watering can for almost 2 weeks and I've only gotten 2 more reds. But I hadn't heard anything about jacob's ladder being necessary until just now, so could someone explain that? I have plenty, just what am I supposed to do with them?

Also, my town is full of hybrids. I have A LOT :U could having so many other hybrids be affecting the chances of my red roses in particular breeding, even if i don't water the others (because they still tend to reproduce, even without being watered)?

if you check out the link I posted before your post, it will explain everything :] it's long and image heavy but it's full of useful info and has taught me everythinggg I know about hybrids.

@Mii: Jacob's ladder's arent necessary, but planting them near/with the flowers you're trying to breed makes it more likely you'll grow whatever it is you're trying to breed. I always plant them with whatever flower I'm trying to grow the most of at that moment C: I have no idea if the other hybrids could be affecting your growth, I hadn't heard anything about the other flowers affecting breeding until now.

@Alexithymiaa: I guess I just kind of assumed it did? If not, then I've got hybrids growing all on their own, because there's a bunch of pink tulips growing in my second town due to so many villagers plopping flowers down right by the bridge. I've never planted anything there or watered that patch, but now there's about 50+ tulips and maybe 5-6 of them are pink, and there's more every day. It doesn't seem to help that that's the bridge all my villagers commune by. >.<
