What are the best town layouts?

I used to have this, but I don't like it when all the villagers are in a row, so I don't want that again.

I'm map resetting and I saw this. Is it good?

It's all a matter of personal opinion really. I personally really like it when the buildings are all together and lined up neatly, so I quite like that in the new map. But some will say that it's best to have retail near the beach, others don't like two separate beaches...

I reset a perfectly wonderful town that was half way done just because of the separated beach. I couldn''t enjoy fishing at all. It was ablsolutely horrible. Having to constantly go back up, go over a bridge and then back on the beach, was a pain. But others may not mind at all. Just my preference.

Having that big turn in the river would irritate me, as would the split beach. Really nice placement of Retail and the Town Hall, though. Plaza's not too bad either.

Here's a map I'd REALLY like to try having, sometime:

NO small strips of land.
NO private beach
HAS large open areas for the Smug PWPs (aka the best ones)

I really like to have all of my static buildings (town hall, re-tail, etc.) to be at the top of the map. Neat and in a line.
My villagers can put themselves wherever they want as long as it's not near my house. (Granted, they're all bundled up in one corner of my map right now. Dunno why they decided to do that.)

- 1 pond
- no private island or a small private island
- i do like the small strip of land as long as its not to long
- peninsulas =]
- river toward southern part of town
- retail & town hall close together

Tbh, I don't get what the big deal is with separated beaches >.> Can't you just put on a wetsuit and swim over xD
But IMO, I don't like those 2 strips of land where the river turns, because you just can't do anything with that land tbh >.> BUUT, you could place your house down on one of those c: Plus I really like where the town hall and re-tail are!

This my map. (Old picture, the villager house on the northern portion is gone now.)

Several people would agree there's not enough room for PWPs, but my personal favorites are the smaller ones. I chose this map because the plaza is the focal point. I love the symmetry. Plus Re-Tail is super close to the beach. Additionally, it has peaches, but that was a perk.

It's definitely personal opinion. My perfect map has one long beach so it can be accessed with both ramps, town hall and tree near each other. All the residents on the bottom part and the other stuff near the top. It's funny, I see other people's ideal maps, and for me, they're the total opposite of what I like.

The best layouts are usually the straight river ones. they give off more space.

In my opinion, the best town layout is the one with an U-shaped river and the plaza in the centre (like in my signature).
It's only my opinion, I also like layouts with long and curvy rivers, but I've heard a lot of times that layouts with a short straight river are the best if you want space for PWP.
So it's up to you :)

I think it it all personal choice really.
I prefer one pond, pears/apples/oranges, and townhall and re-tail on the top part.

This is my map, and it is decent. I mean, there are better maps, but I kinda like it. It has one pond and pears, so I was happy.

I agree with perfect map is just a personal choice. I like my river to be long and have 2-3 ponds for fishing. I like fishing a lot. :3 Otherwise, I am okay with any number of rocks, grass pattern and native fruit. I think it's interesting to get a random town map like in the old AC games. Then I have a challenge to make everything look good. :D I think a difficult map = more hours of playing animal crossing.

Oh, the event plaza placement is awesome!
