Bells

Title says it all. I saw a crown in the shop and I'm willing to fork over all of my bells for it, but I'm short 400K. >.<
Also, is cutting down all of the trees that aren't palms worth it? Rainbow Stags sell for 10K, as I recall, and I've only seen them spawn on the regular trees.

yes, cut them all down. if you catch any other beetles i swear you will lose a golden beetle
happened to me once so cut everything down

they spawn 7pm - a bit over 12am i think

I can loan/give you the extra money you need, if you'd like. :3

I usually go to the island at dusk because a lot of sharks spawn at that time, and a bit later when the sun is down valuable beetles will spawn.

After 7pm is good, and yes, cutting everything else down is definitely worth it. I also ignore goliath beetles unless I'm in a hurry because they're only worth 6k, and it's pretty easy to catch beetles worth 8k+ with everything else chopped down. Also make sure any palm trees are in a place where you can easily catch beetles on them so you don't have beetles spawning in annoying places.

I usually go at around 8-9pm ish and always come back later after hours. I also usually do a mixture of beetles and sharks, I found that to be faster/most efficient way of making bells. If you're not good at catching fish tho, stick to beetle catching only.

Thanks for the help! =D
I guess that I'll clear the grassy area and plant some more palms, then get to hunting.

Yeah, listen for the nighttime music that starts at 7. That's how you know if you're on a random player's island where you can't see the time.

Definitely after 7pm or if you are an insomniac like me go around 3-4 in the morning. To catch more sharks I swat the little fish away with my bug net. Or go diving along the shoreline. You can sneak up to beetles that way. One fast way to catch beetles is look at lines in sand. You don't even have to look at the tree or bug. At 3rd line from tree go into stealth mode. At 2nd line let go of net and you quickly got your beetle. Swat away fruit beetles if you keep any trees on grass which you don't need anyway.

If you want to farm beetles for cash, here's what I usually do.

1. Go to your island after 7 pm.

2. You'll need to remove all of the shrubs and trees. Remove ONLY the palms on the east or west side of the island, leaving about 3 or 4 palm trees on one side of the island. Removing shrubs and regular trees prevent butterflies and other non-valuable beetles from spawning.

3. This leaves only the large beetles, those beach roaches (not sure what they're called), and hermit crabs available to spawn.

4. Starting from the top of the island run down the side that has no palm trees and chase off all of the trash bugs. Once you start to near the palm trees, walk along the beach watching the trees for big beetles. Once you reach the top of the island, just repeat.

5. Carry a fishing rod with you too, that way if you see a fin you can catch it. Ocean fish aren't worth keeping. You also use the rod to tell you when your storage is full. If you catch a valuable beetle, dump the rod, and then go put your stuff into your storage. Pick up the rod again when you go back outside.

6. Golden Beetles and Hercules Beetles are the most valuable. Goliath beetles (the red and black ones) are the least valuable big beetle. I don't even bother to catch them.

7. A full storage of beetles and sharks usually gets me between 350K to 500K per island trip.

The valuable beetles start spawning at 5pm, but it takes a bit longer if you go before 7pm because you'll get locusts and grasshoppers that are really hard to chase away. BUT I usually find that between 5pm and 7pm I get more golden stags and horned hercules spawning than after 7pm, so it takes a bit longer but I tend to make a bit more if I go a little earlier. This isn't confirmed, it's just my experience

If you go any time between 5pm and 8am you're guaranteed to get valuable beetles

Like everyone else has said, cut down all your normal trees and get rid of any bushes or flowers, and ignore goliath beetles unless you're in a hurry

I cut down all the palm trees along the bottom of my beach so I have a row of palms along each side of the beach. I start from the bottom and head up the side, then run down through the middle to scare away wharf roaches etc. then run up the other side, rinse and repeat, and catch any sharks I happen to see along the way

lucindaa - that's such a good idea, it always seems to be the bottom row of trees where the rarest beetles spawn and i always accidentally scare them off! Question though - if i was to cut down the trees along the bottom, would i get less beetles appearing as i have less trees? Or would i get the same amount of beetles, just over a smaller amount of trees? :)

sorry, not intending to take over the thread!

I'd just like to say thanks - I've just cut down all my trees except for 4 on the right side & I've noticed a huge increase in beetles. It's 10pm & the little beach roaches are less common from what I'm seeing.

No, You only have 5 bugs on the island at a time, so as soon as you catch one, another will spawn out of your view, so getting rid of your bottom trees are a really smart idea. You wont lose any money/bugs.

I don't think you'll get fewer beetles, at least I don't feel like I've been getting fewer since I cut down the bottom row... there's always times when nothing shows up for a little while, you just have to keep going around scaring off the non valuable bugs until the valuable beetles start showing up again

If you find that it does drop off you can always replant some along the bottom, but personally even if there were more showing up with the trees along the bottom it wouldn't make a difference if they were constantly being scared off anyway
