I don't see any difference w/ any single personality type have had several dupes by all my villagers at this point. Is there any truth that you need all types for each different DIY sets? seems random to me thus far, any input? noticed any different crafts? I'd still buy any missing since love my current villagers atm haha o/

I think the official guide said that some were limited (I don't own it, so someone else confirm this lol) but if you check nookplaza.net you can type a certain diy (ie. "ironwood clock") and under it will say the personality type that will give you the DIY (ie. Smug)

i think flower wreaths & crowns can be given regardless of personality though.

my guess is there's probably a general pool of sorts and a specific type pool, and you're more getting stuff from the general pool

because I've definitely noticed certain types giving certain diys more than others (ex: smugs with gold(en) diys)

It's in the guidebook that apparently specific recipes come from specific villagers. I own it so can confirm.

It is probably similar to reactions. While there is a set list of 5 reactions you can get from a Cranky, 4/5 of them can also be learned from any other personality. It’s just that Cranky is more likely to give you those 4. However, there is 1/5 that ONLY a Cranky can give you.

There are probably a few recipes that are personality locked while the others just have a probability algorithm.

Idk about a list, but you can see them all on nookplaza if you search for a recipe. It'll tell you what personality gives it to you or if all personalities can. Same goes for the reactions.

This is not true. Each personality has 5 reactions locked to them. 1 of which requires high friendship for the villager to choose to teach you it.

But yes, it’s true. Most DIY recipes are personality exclusive. The only ones that aren’t are the flower wreaths/crowns.

The full list is in this spreadsheet. Go to the Recipes tab:

It is true - only the BFF reaction is locked.
I have all the reactions except 6 BFF ones. I had a the forced starter smug on my island that I never once talked to and ran from when they called my name to teach me a reaction. I have never had a smug since, yet I have the 4 non-BFF smug reactions.

Edit: I ran from the smug because I wasn’t sure how the moving-out mechanics worked and thought that might make a difference.

First I've heard of this. All guides say they're personality exclusive. Not sure, because so far all reactions I've obtained have followed the correct personalities. (I've recorded each one).

It might have to do with the fact that I don’t have a smug on my island and have no means of learning the non-BFF reactions. I don’t expect to get the BFF reaction until I do get a smug and make him my BFF.
We just need more data! Haha

This is the first I've heard of this and I'm actually really confused because for this to be true, each personality would need to have their own dialogue written for each reaction. I'm looking at a webpage of literally all the dialogue that was datamined from the game right now. It looks like delight, greetings, joy, and surprise can be taught by all personalities (eta: actually whoops, made a mistake here, anyone can teach you joy and then you get the other 3 by default. because of this, each personality has dialogue for joy and then the 5 others they can teach, from what I'm seeing on this page). However there's no dialogue that exists for, say, a jock to teach the smug reaction "dozing" or a peppy to teach the jock reaction "distress" so I don't quite understand how them giving a reaction they have no dialogue for is possible... mine have also always lined up with the correct personality whenever I've gotten one.

Somebody else mentioned that they received reactions that are supposed to be "exclusive" to villagers with a certain personality in another thread.

Looks like this is true in that you can learn most of the reactions from all villagers except a few of them where you need to achieve a high level of friendship.

I chalk it up to be like breeding flowers, villager stats for campsite and mystery islands. The algorithms are complex and are not simple gates “if X then gives Y”.
It could be time locked too. (If after X days no smug villager to teach reaction, turn function Z ON) I don’t TT ahead but at the beginning I did TT back and forth a lot trying to get villagers to leave. This set my “days played” clock count very high.
