I like them both but prefer cats because they are more independent and are less demanding pets.

I can’t stress this enough. I also grew up with cats and did not have a large dog. My husband wanted a Golden Retriever, and we recently got one as a puppy. He’s 6 months old now, and is a huge, uncoordinated klutz. I’m still not used to him and his largeness. That being said, he is adorable and I know he’ll grow out of it.I've insisted that if we are going to get one then it needs to be a puppy rather than adopting an older dog because I know I'm going to have a hard time adjusting to living with one.
That makes sense. Just keep in mind that puppies require a lot of training and can destroy a lot of things while they're still learning. Breed is important too as you'd probably do better with a calm, lazy dog versus a hyper, energetic one.My partner wants us to get a large dog in future. I've grown up with them, so I guess I'm a bit biased. Dogs have so much personality and each of them are so different in their own way. I love how friendly most dogs are. And puppies...they are gorgeous.
