There are such gorgeous islands on Youtube and Instagram all the time, and while I'm always encouraged to keep bettering my island I often find myself holding back because we don't have a clear schedule or any idea on whether they add certain elements like buildings, new furniture we haven't seen before, etc. There's also the chance that they will bring back more customization with bridges and the exterior of the house, even a possibility that we will be able to customize our fences in the future since I just noticed this from the launch trailer, a white fence!
Do you feel limited by this uncertainty or did you finish your island without a plan to change it? Do you think there will be new content to the game or will it focus on bringing NL aspects back overall? I would love to know how you guys are planning and what's your opinion regarding this topic!
There is a section I'm kinda leaving open in case there are new buildings coming this update. Then again, just not too sure what to do with the area just yet.
I have two places I can make room for new buildings if need be (hopefully the dream suite is one of them although it'd be cool to have a dream boat as well), but I haven't worked that much on my house yet since I want more items.. for some reason I still rushed to pay off my home loan. I really hope they expand the furniture selection quickly. My biggest fear is that they will model after pocket camp and require in-app purchases for the best furniture/features (not sure if that's likely though..)
The updates are not the main reason that my island still has unfinished areas. Autumn and winter are!
I don't time-travel outside of the current season, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what new items I can collect in autumn and winter. Other people's screenshots show some really cute mushroom-themed items that I know I will be excited to get my hands on.
Having said that, I do hope there will be new buildings in future updates. I would certainly welcome the cafe and dream suite.
I have a few spots in mind that I could expand to, but it's not like I have them 'reserved' for anything. We just don't know what's coming, and say we got more buildings, I have no idea how much space they'd need or even if their appearance would let them fit in with my current layout.
I don't worry about it too much personally, I just fill up my island gradually and if it's full by the time we get something new I'll just move things around a bit and create something new! The designing power we have is pretty great this time around.
i kinda do but i also dont have any good ideas for two of my areas so im just waiting if something sparks my insperation like the mermaid furniture and pirate stuff did.
also i would kill for that white fence. there was another white fence in a promo picture that we never got i reeeeeally need a white fence and a pink one tbh
Nope, if I need to tear down a section for upgrades so be it. I really don't mind scraping ideas and rebuilding part of the island. I understand not everything would mesh or transition well into another but it adds to the fun to try to make it work. If it doesn't I'll scrap it and start from scratch.
I've decided to just go ahead and design it the way I currently want it now with the thought that I will have to change it up at some point in the future! So far there have been no updates that would really constitute wide-sweeping changes (i.e. no new buildings) so it seems like a waste to wait that long for updates/content that may not have impacted the island substantively anyway!

I'm not really in a rush to complete it, it gives me something to do.
I finished my island with what I have now. I wouldn't be fun for me to hold it unfinished waiting for stuff that may never come or take years. But it will be a fun project to change some areas if need be
I'm in the process of re-designing my island now because I was getting bored of my previous layout while taking into account the rumors about new buildings. I'm intentionally making some areas easy to transform into plot space to avoid screwing over future me (I hope it's enough ).
if there is an update... I'll just work around it to fit my new needs. I'm mostly worried about adding to the number of villagers.... by far the most space in my town is villager areas, and so if i was allowed more villagers trying to fit on even two more is a stretch for me. But I will address that if it happens, and also I'll just be so happy and excited to have more allowed on my island that I will love it
Kinda. I'm avoiding developing a certain area incase I find specific villager but I think I might go ahead and placed one of my other villagers there as a place holder.
Not really! If there will be a new shop or the nooks cranny gets a new update im just gonna hope it doesnt look bad/ make a new area! (my island is not really done too so I have space for more buildings)
I left some open areas and unfinished areas for whenever they add extra buildings. I can'y wait for them to be added, I want my town to look more finished.
Yes partially since I'm wondering if any more buildings will be added. I'm leaving the upper part of my island unfinished as I mainly just use it for breeding flowers or farming wood right now.

In one way, that is why I decided heavily to not actually make my island just yet. At the same time, holding off for what may or may not happen within a long line of updates to the game is also a risk in regards to holding back lol
