I'm time traveling and attempting to catch all the bugs and fish so I can get the golden tools. I've caught a tarantula but haven't been able to find a scorpion. I've only ever caught one once in my first town about 7 years ago, so I can't remember when I caught it. Can anyone provide some advice? In my game it's September tenth.
Catching a scorpion was so difficult. I found them a lot harder to find than tarantulas. I think you're in the best month for catching them, though, since tarantulas are only available until August and scorpions are available through September. So it's easier to find them when the spawns aren't split between the two. I would stay in September and make sure the time is after 7pm.
I found tarantulas more often in the later hours, like midnight to 2am. I found more scorpions in the evening hours around 7pm to 9pm. But that could just be pure RNG so I'm not sure if that will help you.
When I was hunting them, I would keep my net in my inventory and ready to pull out. Then, I'd just walk slowly around my town with the sound up so I could listen for their telltale skittering sound. Every so often, I'd duck inside the train station or Re-Tail to reset the spawns and continue walking circles around my town. It took a good bit of hunting, but I eventually found one.
I found that they usually spawned in the same few areas as the tarantulas, so once I knew the places I was likely to see them it made things go a little quicker.
I seem to recall that tarantulas and scorpions have certain set spawn points for each town in new leaf, so if you ever do find a scorpion but fail to catch it, keep checking back in that same area and you should find another one eventually
