I go to a catholic private school meaning no hair dye or nose piercings :( I really wanted a nose ring for my 14th birthday or maybe earlier (it's august 5th, so if I got it earlier, I'd have time to adjust before I took it out for school) does anyone have one? Does it hurt when you pierce it? How long does it take to get used to it? I've had my ears pierced before but THAT didn't go well (one just went straight through my ear one day and now it's shaped like a butt on the end and that made me too scared to take out the other one so the skin started growing over it and SWALLOWING it until I was fiddling with it in class one day and I got it out. I was 11 lol) I could really use some help here 😅

I got my nose pierced for my 16th birthday. It was $60. A lot of places don’t even pierce people under 16. I’m now 24 and it’s just been part of my face for so long, it’s not even noticeable.
It doesn’t hurt at all. Your eyes water, but that’s just a reaction from your sinuses. You have to do a salt rinse for about a month, where you mix hot water and a salt solution and you blow bubbles with your nose. There’s nothing to get used to. It doesn’t hurt unless you don’t clean it and it gets infected.
Here’s the thing though. You can’t take it out. It will close up immediately and you’ll have to get it repierced. I had my nose pierced for over a year, and the backing came out so i took the whole thing out. Well I left it out for like two days and it closed up. I had to go back to the parlor and get it redone. They did it for free though.

I have a friend with a piercing and she takes it out (so she doesn't get dress-coded at school) was yours a septum or ring? Hers was septum

I pierced my nose at home at the age of 14 and I've had it ever since! I'm 23 now. I usually keep a nose hoop in, but I have to wear a stud at my job since I work with animals that can be unpredictable. I do not recommend piercing your own nose, for safety and pain reasons. I did get a keloid a few months later that I had for about a year. I used tea tree oil on it religiously and I'm not sure if that contributed to helping it go away, or if it went away on its own. I also considered getting a high nostril piercing at one point (professionally), but I've changed my mind since.

Yea I'm DEFINITELY not doing it by myself. People are constantly making the "ice cube and needle" jokes and they freak me out

Mine is a nostril stud. The septum ring can easily be removed because the septum is thicker so the hole is larger. Alternatively, it can be flipped inside. It’s significantly more painful than a nostril piercing.

In the end, I may just be a wimp and get one of those fake nose rings 🤷‍♀️

If you’re getting a nostril piercing, you can’t feel it at all. It’s over in a second. I wanted one for years and my parents finally let me get one when I turned 16. No regrets. It looks great. I think you should get one.

Thanks for the recommendation! Sadly, my school is VERY tight on the hair dye and nose piercing issue, but I'll look into it more

Can you get away with putting in a clear one for school?
Sadly, no. There was a girl last year who decided to dye the tips of her hair a faint cyanish blue at the end of the summer and they forced her to cut it all off. They wouldn't let me get away with any type of nose piercing if their lives depended on it 😭

i didn't even feel getting mine pierced, but don't get one if you know you have to take it out. it's just not worth it.
