I had to turn off my phone, and when I turned it back on there was a weird AI app on my phone that basically replaced my Google asstant, called Gemini. Which apparently alot of people don't like.

Honestly it was a big pain to get rid of. I'm curious, has anyone else ever had self installing apps, or apps that randomly install after updates? Do you like, or not like when that happens.

not an app but i was there when U2 forced their album onto everyone's itunes and it caused global outrage

Bought a phone for emergency, listening to music, pokemon Home and for photos. I rarely use it and last time the Samsung phone was a mess. It kept updating UI, finished updating and than wanted to update it again. Gave it to my husband and Samsung downloaded alot of Apps without my permission.

My phone will update and download random games that I will never play, so I end up deleting them. Every time I update my phone, there are new games. I think one time it downloaded TikTok.

Yeah, and it was annoying. At some point my phone kept downloading games i didn't want so i had to find a way to disable the app that was causing it and it worked.

I had the same problem with games. Every now and then a game will auto-install. No idea why, but it's a pain to have to keep uninstalling things.

And they're not even good games. 😂

I’ve never heard of this, is it normal with Android phones??? My iPhone has never done it. My first reaction to the title alone was that it sounded like a phone with some sort of virus/malware/etc, but odd that so many people have experienced it

I do remember this tho lmao that was so strange. I thought I’d accidentally bought something I didn’t even want and was worried I’d wasted some iTunes money 😂

I have an Android phone but I haven't experienced it downloading games without my permission. Maybe there's a very specific kind of phone that's doing this?

Back in ye olden days I would torrent pretty much anything i came across on the internet. my preteen self did not know about viruses and stuff back then! i just wanted movies.
anyway uh i'd sometimes have new web browsers install without warning. now i know better and that it's sketchy! anyway dont let you (or your kid/younger family member) download stuff online without parental guidance lol.

I think that came with a recent Android update honestly, I also randomly found the Gemini app on my phone one day. I didn't have the option to uninstall the app, only to disable it (like any other standard system app), so that's what I did. I do occasionally use Gemini (just for fun) but I don't want the app on my phone.

Sounds like something that came with a system update. I think that especially the cheaper phones try to force some apps on you.
