I've paved most of my island, and while I love how it looks in game, I can't help but get a little self conscious at my map. Anyone else have an "ugly" map because of the path tool? I really wish it showed the different colors of paths on the map rather than just a dirt brown.

(Still a WIP, pls ignore villager housing placements and that random incline leading to nothing lol)

Sometimes I'm tempted to tear it all down and go with a more "natural" look solely because of my map (and all the pretty forest islands I see on Twitter), but I always tend towards modern towns, so I have to try to remind myself that it's just unique to me in that way.

honestly that just screams impressive to me! I don't think it looks ugly or anything, you shouldnt worry too much about it!
I definitely do get the struggle though. I'll make a pond and it'll look fine in the game but then i open the map and it looks super terrible lol
the map makes everything look worse

the path does make my map look weirdly unnatural too, i can't share a picture because it wouldn't let me but i have covered my entire island in paths
yours does look super cool though ^-^

Thanks guys! Here's a few pics of my island in game. Most of areas along the beach are a wooden boardwalk, my actual "path" paths are brick, and I use terracotta for the plazas around buildings or little rest areas, except for my museum, which has an arched stone plaza.

oh gosh these look so beautiful!!!! forget the map... i also struggle with that, i design something i really really like, but then open the map and realize how ugly it looks. but then again, not a lot of people even check that right?

Forget how it looks on the map, your island itself looks awesome!! I am sure no one is gonna even care how the map looks after seeing all this amazing work you have done. Totally worth it!!!

honestly the only thing I'd be worried about with that kind of map is whether or not fossils and other buried objects would be harder to find?

Honestly, I don't care how my map looks as long as the island itself looks the way I want it. And I feel the same way about other people's islands. I can appreciate certain details like "Oh, how sweet! They shaped their rivers into a piece of fruit" but sometimes details like that can only be appreciated from the map and not so much as you're traversing the island. That's fine too, but not a detail I get caught up on.

To the OP, I think your map looks fine and I'm sure it took a ton of effort. I bet it looks awesome in person!

the pics of your island look so good, i wouldn't worry about the map. i love the area with the palm trees in the middle of the path

It's actually kind of easier, since there are limited spots where they can spawn! I plan on keeping my campgrounds and a few other spots natural so that I still get fossils, mushrooms in the fall, etc. :)

I had that problem at some point, but then I realized 99.9% of the time I will be playing I won't be looking at the map. If you like how it looks, I'll keep it. It will look that way because all pathing share the same color.

As someone who is terraforming the crap out of their island rn, all I see when i look at your map is EFFORT, like i'm just legit impressed lol - and your pics of the island are beautiful

The only thing I'd take as "bad" is the random green spots on the brown spot. If you think so too, you could always use the design path to replace them. And for trees you could put the dirt path underneath them.

Forget the map. You aren't playing in the map your are playing in your actual town :) The only reason my map gets used is when I'm telling my friends X villager is giving away a DIY and they have to use it to locate the house haha.

Don't worry about your map even a little bit! I can't say I've seen many that have almost every tile paved, and that really just gives yours a unique take. Before I scrolled down to see your screenshots, I was thinking that it probably looks pretty impressive in game, and when I got to the photos you posted, I wasn't disappointed even a little. You've done a fantastic job on everything!

I do agree, the fact the map doesn't distinguish between paths, or even put lines for walls and stuff, DOES make the map look really messy and weird. I, myself, am only a small way into designing my first island (my island is split into 3 so I'm naming them Island 1-3 based on their themes).

I never had this problem. Maps were not meant to be special, but informational. At least that is my opinion.

I just wish maps didn't show paths at all, it makes mine look so messy even though it looks more normal in the actual game

Your island looks great judging by the screenshots! I think it'd be neat if the map did show the different color paths though.
When I saw your map the first thing I thought of was "Wow, this person put in a LOT of work into their map. It probably looks rad"
So yeah, don't worry about that!

If anything, it shows how much damn effort you put into your island. My lazy bum self would never take the time to lay down so many paths. You get major props in my book.
