Anyone Else Given Up Catching the Mahi Mahi?

Mahi Mahi is super hard to catch for me too. I am determined make a model, though. I have been crafting 10 fish bait a day and limiting my hunting to that much per day so I don't burn out. One day I'll get enough. One day.

I normally would fish near the dock using baits before auto save kicks in. I will restart the game and repeat the process until catching it. :) In that way, I can conserve the bait. This is how I caught those rare fishes like the Mahi Mahi.

Ooooh this is so smart

Mahi-Mahi took me about... 240-270 bait to catch? Nothing in comparison to the 631 bait it took me to catch the giant trevally. Yes, I kept count. I went that freakin' insane trying to catch that thing last month.

Wow!! So much bait. I’m trying to save mine for the next fishing tourney. I caught the Giant Trevally no problem and no bait.. interesting people have different spawn rates on their islands

It’s literally the only ocean fish I am missing for this season 😔 I caught 3 giant trevally but 0 mahi mahi even with tons of bait

I’m going to try catching at a friend’s island and hope their odds are better than mine >_>

The trick is to not actively look for it. The game senses your desire and does everything in it’s power to prevent you from achieving your dreams.

I just wander by my dock whenever I’m in that area and check for a big shadow. I have a model of a mahi-mahi and gifted a couple to villagers.

Even with baits the Mahi Mahi took me a long time too. I think I spent over a 100 baits trying to catch it.

I see some comments about spawn rates, I'm not sure if those are correct. For some fishes, it could take me a long time and a lot of bait to catch one, only to have them turn up quite regularly without even using bait at all after that. Today I caught a Mahi Mahi without even trying or fishing a lot, so I'm not sure what causes the difference between over a 100 baits and random fish nr. 6.
