I realize this might be a weird post, I have never posted on a forum before but greetings to everyone from Del Sol island! lol I decided to do some island hopping today to try to get a cute villager today I was looking to trying my luck of getting a cat (preferably punchy) maybe Lady Luck would be In my favor tonight. I took at least 6 trips until I finally gave up and took Dom with me to my island. Does anyone else feel super guilty for not giving a chance to any of those other villagers you overlook? Or for island hopping? I regret it I like to play the game with whatever it throws at me and not having to basically manufacture the experience by island hopping . I saw Leonardo, Monty, Rocket, Octavian, and Violet they were not the most appealing to me but nonetheless I wish there was more space than 10 villagers. As stated before, I ask does anyone else feel guilt like you could have given these virtual animal NPC’S a good life? Idk maybe I am just overthinking and getting attached to these guys I’ve had a couple villagers on my island say they want to move and I’ve said no to all of them even the ones I originally disliked (Ed, Spike) I’ve developed a weird one sided bond. Eventually i will give them the go ahead but I’m already dreading that day when they move :/ What are everyone else’s thoughts on these opinions am I just being overly emotional?

Well the villagers were made to be humanoid, acting as people, simulating real people and emotions so I mean It's normal to feel for the villagers in the game because they were made that way, for you to talk to them, interact with them just like people and make friendships and feelings for them. I think the best way to enjoy the game is to think of them as people and friends, it helps in the immersion of the game and can make lasting memorable memories :)

Naw, some people here have special connections with certain villagers. I was personally get bummed out not having Skye on my island, then all the glitches with villager adoption.. was starting to think I'd never get her. Then the bugs were fixed and I got her for free from another user to test if it was fixed.

If only the game would allow me to have 50 villagers...

It is a little sad when you pass a villager in hopes of finding the other one you want more. But I guess that's just how it goes when you are given limitations.

I think I would be overwhelmed with 50 villagers 😓 I feel like 20-25 would be better but at the same time thats a LOT of island space so we would need huge islands :c

Haha yeah. I was exeggerating. I just like a lot of villagers. It's been hard choosing the ones I really want for my island.

Yeah there are a lot of villagers I'd love to have and I've had to make some hard choices for my dream squad :c so many villagers I want to have, I need another switch just to have them :p

Aww it's nice that you care for the villagers you leave behind, even if you weren't able to invite them to your island :) Some people have specific dreamie lists and hunt for villagers that way, but if you're interested in experiencing a whole bunch of them, I think it's okay to cycle them out when you're ready to. If you never want them to leave, it's okay too! Sometimes I see it as my villager trying to discover something new when they leave my island, so I don't get too sad, although I will think about past villagers frequently to see if I can get them again one day :)

Yeah I do, but then I remember that 400 other villagers exist and would probably enjoy them more. This happens a lot with villagers I used to have in NL and my old villagers that have moved out. I feel bad, but in the end when I get a new villager, I'm not sad about it anymore

I don't really feel bad about passing on characters that I don't particularly like when I'm island hopping. But I do get legit sad when the ones on my island move away, even if it's one that I wanted to move. lol

This is derived from Pocket Camp, but I wish you could meet villagers when traveling and add them to a contact list on your Nook phone, then call them at a later date and invite them to visit your island. Maybe require some conditions be met before they'd visit. Then, one of the Public Works you could build for your island would be a guest house, where visitors could stay for a couple of days or maybe a week.

Also, I liked it in Pocket Camp when you could designate a villager as your sidekick. Maybe the visitor to your island could follow you around and take part in activities, like fish when you fish and actually add to your inventory. They could go to mystery islands with you and catch bugs. If you hit it off well enough, maybe they'd decide they wanted to move to your island permanently. Not likely to ever happen, but I think it would be neat.

No because in my case, the islands were full of trash and losers. Lol. Kidding aside, I got lucky during the first bouts of island hopping and snagged some dreamies but towards the end of filling up my town, not so much. I don’t feel guilty leaving villagers I don’t like behind in the islands though because at least there, no one would hate on them unlike if they move to my island, I’d end up hating on them every single day and that’s not an ideal life to live so I just leave them there. It’s just harder to be in a place where you’re unwanted and or ignored so they’re better off not being invited if I don’t like them anyway.

They just feel like children to me and I want them all to be happy. I woke up to play today and saw that Chester was in my campsite. So I frantically started playing his card game to try to make him live with me only to realize Chrissy moved into the plot of land I bought out. So I tried to see if spike would be the one to move out but it was sadly cookie who wanted to leave these compromises/sacrifices are low key stressing me out. Lmao

Totally understandable. I got Drago in my campsite not too long, and he's one of my Dreamies, so I had to have him. I was hoping that Annalise would be the one to move, since I'm not super fond of her, but it was Marina. Made me sad, but I did what I had to. lol

You could reserve one or two rotating spots on your island. Instead of just leaving it up to chance for who moves in, you could island hop without a specific villager in mind, and just take the first one that's not atrocious and that you think you could grow to appreciate.

That way, you get the excitement of randomness but avoid villagers that will be the scourge of your island, and you get to experience new villagers all the time!

I didn’t feel bad until people started drawing the sad villager comics. The one where the villager watches the plane take off with tears in its eyes ruined me.

That’s a really good view point on it maybe I should just not get my hopes up too high haha

I feel you 100%.

Now that I'm more used to the game and its general philosophy of befriending these characters and then being willing to let them go, I feel less guilt about leaving villagers on islands or moving some out that I may not prefer. I still feel the guilt, but it doesn't haunt me like it did the first couple weeks I played.

I don't mind island hopping and leaving villagers behind (except that torn feeling when I kind of want them but was planning for something else like a different personality or something), what I do hate though is the thought of wrecking the island though so I just collect fruit, shells, bottles, hit rocks, pick weeds and gather wood with a stone axe. I could never deforest an island before I leave, I’d feel monstrous, and that’s ridiculous because I hated they whole ‘animal crossing encourages destruction of ecosystems’ nonsense that peta and some newspapers put out! ...but at the same time, I can’t bring myself just to go through the whole island causing chaos. It’s a weird thing to feel guilty about but there it is!

I understand the guilt. I don’t tend to island hop or choose my villagers any more because of this. Some of my absolutely favourite villagers of all time have been the ones I least expected! *cough cough* Chow (don’t flail me)
I get why people want the tier ones. I think most of them are pretty cute too (albeit perhaps a bit bland). But I feel like every town just feels the same when they have the same 10 villagers in the game. There’s 391 to choose from! And so many are different and interesting. And what’s the worst that happens if you end up with a villager you’re not 100% on. You just move them back out again.
As a lover of most of the typically “ugly” villagers - I say give them a go!
