Anyone else a fan of the gorilla villagers?

I wasn't a big fan at all before I saw Louie in NL.
I thought he was pretty cool but I never had him. Now, in NH one of my resident crankies is Boyd. I love him so much.
I've been also inviting Violet to my campsite and I'm considering inviting her over.
I see that the gorilla villagers don't get any love and most people consider them ugly. I know that they are not your usual type of "cute" but I think they're very endearing. It could also be a Donkey Kong thing as whenever I see them I remember playing that game for hours when I was a kid.

To be frank, I don't like them, no.

Having said that, the reason I like any specific villager is because of my experiences with them in the game. If a gorilla moved into my town, I'd probably grumble about it, but of they turned out to be a really good friend I would change my tune about that gorilla.

Only gorillas I've had were Jane in GC and Al (I think?) in NL. Can't say I felt anything for either of them...

For how much I dislike them though, Hans isn't the worst-looking thing in the world.

Violet, Hans, Boone and Rilla (yes, the Hello Kitty one) I somewhat enjoy.

I have Hans on my island right now but I am eventually going to let him go when he wants to move. I have Leopold as a second smug and I need room for Pietro when the day comes. Three smugs is too much.

My biggest problem is their butts. I just.. can't deal with getting cheeks in my face every time they turn around...​

haha... yeah, it seems that's most people's reaction when they encounter a gorilla on a mystery tour.
When I first saw Boyd on a mystery tour, I wanted to run for the hills too but he was new to me since they introduced him as the Welcome Amiibo pack so I decided to give him a chance just to see how he is and he has grown on me so much.

I do love Rilla. I also have her card so I do hope she becomes available at some point.
I think what I like about them is that they're a bit ugly which makes them more unique in my opinion. lol.

You're definitely in the minority here, haha, but it's cool to have varied tastes in villagers and the reason why there's so many of them, so there's someone for everyone! I'm in the "they're kinda ugly/not cute so I don't want them on my island" camp for sure too.

I like a lot of them to be honest, it’s just that some of the ones I like don’t have designs that really stand out (Peewee and Ceasar for example). Boone really is great though, and I think Violet actually has a neat design overall. She’s not in-your-face ultra cute or pretty but she still looks cool in my opinion.

I had Hans in the early period of my original “New Leaf” town Applewin.

I established having him as a villager in my Christmas-theme Toy Day.

Hans is a really good villager.

I also like Peewee. He is in one of my towns that is too difficult, and it took too long, to develop and for which to establish a Dream Address.

I dealt with Louis only briefly.

I value the input from other commenters in their assessments of other gorilla villagers/islanders.

I don't like most of them very much to be honest, but I do love Hans. If I didn't already have so many smug villagers that I like then I'd consider having him on my island. Louie and Boone are also acceptable due to their likeness to Donkey Kong and mandrills respectively, but I don't love them as much.
