Any news I may have missed regarding being able to back up ACNH online?

Pretty sure I read this was a definite plan for Nintendo? But wondering if anyone's heard any more about how soon this may be implemented, as I haven't been following too closely? SO desperate for this feature - and feel like it'd make the current bugs a lot less scary if we'd have our islands backed up online! Plus I'm terrified of my Switch Lite breaking and losing everything... please and thanks for any help!

There hasn’t really been any further information on this. Idk if the virus has affected the rollout plan at all or if they were planning on waiting awhile before implementing it, but it really sucks for the people who’ve lost their towns already. Hopefully we’ll hear something soon.

It seems so weird that out of the gazillion games out there, this is the only one that can't be backed up and transferred onto a different device without losing progress.
I mean it almost seems like a no-brainer for a game like AC to have this feature where users typically have hundreds upon hundreds of hours invested in the game.
I really hope they do something about it soon.
