i agree i wished nintendo could design the cartridge well enough so it would not be easily come off like that.
i had almost similar experience like this, my 3ds accidentally fell down to the floor while the game was still on and when i picked it up there's a message on the screen saying that the cartridge had been removed or something along the line (the cartridge was still inside but maybe somehow it's moving a bit idk so i got the message?)
i was so scared so i just returned to home without saving the game, turned off the 3ds properly, removed the cartridge and entered the cartridge again. I opened acnl again and thankfully everything is okay.
i almost had a mini heart attack at that moment

Oh my gosh no, that's so sad! You're not a baby for crying, that would be incredibly upsetting, I would cry too!

I'm so sorry! ;~; It's okay to shed a few tears over your town. When I got rid of my first City Folk town years ago I cried for maybe 30 minutes, even though I hadn't kept it for very long. I also cried a little when I restarted my first town when I really shouldn't have started over.
I'm really sorry to hear that this happened to you...so many people are losing their games to corruptions. :c I just wish Nintendo would fix it, or at least make it harder for the data to be corrupted. I never had a corrupted game until New Leaf arrived.
If there's anything you need help with, please feel free to send me a VM or a PM...I'm definitely willing to help; that's what I'm here for! <3 I won't have a permanent town until summer, but for now I have one for helping purposes (although I'm not concerned with making the town wonderful).
