Hello folks at Nintendo!

Thank you so much for continuing to make Animal Crossing New Horizons a wonderful and immersive experience for all of us during these tense and trying times.

I do have one concern with your newest diving update; just anyone can jump off the airport pier, regardless of any fencing I'd like them to stay in once off the dock. This is a concern because, as a trader/seller in online communities, I keep sensitive items outside of that fenced area and now I have to put in extra work to keep them out of those items. For the most part, members of the community are wholesome and trustworthy but there are a few bad eggs out there looking to cause damage and this gives them an open window (or pier, as it were) to wreak havoc.

As a solution, would it be possible to update it so only Best Friends can jump from the airport pier? Or to remove jumping from that particular pier altogether if limiting is impossible? (Though I'd hate to see it altogether removed.)

Again, thanks for all you do and for continuing to make my ACNH experience top- notch.

Yours ALWAYS,
Naomi

I totally agree here! While I don't have many items i keep barred away, it's definitely inconvenient that ANYONE can jump off the pier

"and the Animal Crossing community at large"

Yeah, not me, sorry. I think it's fun seeing people jump off the pier. Not everyone is massively into trading online.

Yeah, I feel like that part is just arrogant of them. I mean it is no different than ending it with, "and 99% of the Animal Crossing community" or even "All of us in the Animal Crossing community"

I am not part of that group either. I LOVE diving off of the airport pier, and I never steal. So... I would never want that. Albeit some way to protect traders is needed, but I wouldn't want it removed.

Though I do have to say it's not just about the trading aspect. I'm going to be hosting a HUGE giveaway and all the stuff is out on my beaches because it's diys that won't fit in the house. Some people leave out turnips for the same reason and that could mean millions of bells lost for some players.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE being able to hop off the airport pier, I just don't think EVERYONE should be able to hop off that pier the same as how only Best Friends can dig or chop trees.

Was not attempting to be arrogant, I'm sorry if you felt that way. It's been edited now.

Maybe restrict it to only best friends, but not removing it. It's not a problem for me either. It's just an annoyance. If I see someone not respecting a rule stating that no one jumps from the airport pier, I'd just cut the connection. !

Personally if I were hosting a sale/trade of items I would make it a rule that absolutely no one is allowed to go into the ocean at all, or I would disconnect everyone. Just keep an eye on the airport and make sure no one does that and it's all good.

That's what I've resorted to for the diy giveaway im doing right now. Just no other choice. :(

It would be easier to fences off your items in one area rather than fencing off your whole island. Though, I suppose it really depends how much stuff you’re leaving out in the open. I’ve visited islands that are solely just items on the ground in every available spot.

Even so, I think jumping off of docks should stay, most players aren’t in the trading community. They shouldn’t be “punished” for what crappy people do. There’s other ways to prevent people from entering or stealing items.

As a trader I keep my items blocked off in a faraway corner or keep a close eye on visitors. If I see them doing something suspicious or against my rules, I go right into sleep mode to kick them out.

Right now it's a LOT of stuff that would take more work to fence off than anything. That said, I'd love for it to be Best Friends only off that particular pier.

i totally agree! while i don’t host trades with more than one person at a time nor do i have anything valuable on the ground, if i should ever decide to venture out into inviting people for celeste, turnip prices, etc, i’d love to not have to worry about people jumping off my pier and shaking my fruit trees, plucking flowers, etc ;w;

I’m just curious, but how how hard would it be for them to make a utilities type of menu where you can turn of certain features depending on how you like to play? We’re all different when it comes to how we like things and jumping off the dock is a cool feature, but also a scary one depending on the situation. I don’t usually have multiple people on my Island, but my roommate likes to dump her stuff all around her house because she’s out of storage. I had someone show up yesterday already wearing a diving suit, If she would have jumped I’d have plenty of time to press “-“. But when hosting a lot of people it would be harder to keep track of everyone.

I think a menu where WE choose how it's set up (I'm thinking like how Minecraft is set up) would be amazing!

tell person coming to trade not to wear wet suit if you see them wearing one on the arriving screen hold power and put in Sleep mode so it disconnects

That's going to be the new rule stipulation until I can get everything fenced off.
