I've said this so many times, but I am addicted to map resetting...
I just reset a town that was already relatively new, but had a layout I wasn't too happy with. I found a new map I liked enough, made a gridded map for it, and now I'm looking at my map and wondering if maybe I could end up with a better one? It's not a bad map by any means. I was struggling with where to plot my villagers, and then once I figured out a set up I liked, I realized I'd forgotten to include two ponds into my gridded map... ponds located right where I wanted some villager houses. I had a back-up plan, so it's not the end of the world, but now I'm hesitant to put more work and thought into it in case I do end up resetting it.

Am I the only one who does this? lol

Nope, you're not the only one. I'm a habitual resetter. Haha I have tried to just be a LOT more picky when I reset, and it takes days (on and off of course) to find a new map. I ended up with one that I liked a lot, only the retail pond and not too many rocks to work around. It's helped. I think I need to get another cartridge to help with the "newness" that I want but also I can have my one main town to be able to actually work towards completing the encyclopedia and everything. But I get it! If you aren't completely happy yoir map you might as well restart before you get too far in to it and still have things you hate about it.

i'm not addicted to it, its rather annoying to me imo, but i will continue to reset until i find a layout that i like, and do find the feeling of a new town and layout rather refreshing

I used to be able to reset on a whim, but nowadays I find it harder to. I'm still trying to bring myself to reset my 2nd town because I don't like the layout. Btw, can anyone confirm this?: Are you able to sell your town to nook and go through all the four maps, pick one, run around town and then power off if you don't like it and have your old town back? I'm thinking of doing a couple map resets before I sell my town for good but I don't know if it will still be there if I pick a map that rover gives me (i forgot how soon the game saves).

I'm not sure if you can reset it after running around the town. I would assume so, and I'm sure someone else might know for sure. I'm just positive that you can reset after looking at Rover's maps if none of them appeal :( There's a pond/rock placement guide at least which helps in picking a map with Rover first, though! I use that a lot lol

I'm all in favor of a second cartridge! I have three, lol. i just get too many ideas and what to do different themed towns. This particular town has been hard for me, because it's sort of a reflection of an old town I really loved but reset due to various things. I've wanted to sort of 'remake' the town ever since, or at least aspects of it, so I'm never quite satisfied with the maps I get. But I think you're right, I might reset until I get one that really clicks like my other towns did.

Ah yeah, that's the thing. I forget the order of events when you start the game as a new mayor... like does it save after your build your house like usual plot resetting or after the tree ceremony? And is the tree ceremony before or after you find your house plot?! XD I'd love some clarification from someone who has reset recently. Btw what is the pond rock placement guide? :O

I'm pretty sure everything is saved after you plant the tree, but you do place your house before the tree ceremony. Isabelle sends you to Nook and then once you place your house she asks you to partake in the ceremony. If i reset again tonight I'll be sure to let you know when it actually let's me save. Aaand here is the rock placement guide! It's mostly to show you where the rocks will spawn based on the size of your main building's pavement area and your ponds locations. http://gentlyusedleaf.tumblr.com/post/86961099174/petal-parasol-its-finally-here-im-sorry

I can confirm - YOU CAN RESET ALL THE WAY UNTIL YOU SEE ISABELLE AFTER PLACING THE MAYORS HOUSE!

I was So so afraid to reset my town and no I be could confirm.
Rover gave me the worst maps I've ever seen the first time.

It took 2 days to reset.

Yes. You can reset - you just have to take the time and go through Nook's offer again and again.
Remember to say you want a new town!

I am the same way, but with building placement and time. If I leave the game aside for a while (a week to a month) I have to restart. I feel horrible for leaving everyone, that I wasn't able to visit at least once a day, etc. I could have a set of villagers I do not like and I will still do it.

I think I'm on something like reset number 10+. Longest I've been without a reset is 6 months I believe.

I'm honestly really envious of the people who've had the same town for the past four years xD

Ah ok that's good to know :) now I feel better about map resetting. All the towns I've had I always go with the first four because I'm too lazy to go through rover's dialogue lol... but this time I'm determined to get a good map!!

I think I might have actually just found a keeper!

All of the rocks that spawn near the permanent structures are spaced nicely and mostly out of the way.
I have two decently sized beaches.
The southern beach has a straight ramp, which I really love.
Retail & Hall are both on the northern side and sort of in line with the station, which I wanted for this town as I'd like a more residential area up top and something more forested below.
The Square is on the southern part (wanted this, too) and it's sort of centered which appeals to me.
I got peaches, which are probably my second favorite fruit beneath apples (I already have apples in one town, so I can be content with that)
and, Diana AND Erik? Erik is one of my favorite villagers, and their houses are in decent spots, so that's a total win.

AND FINALLY

I usually prefer southern facing waterfalls, but I have this type in another town and I love it just as much. I don't see these often when I reset ;;

I think I can work with this map. Thank you, belltree, you are all good luck :P

Nice! I've also been map resetting lately too and to be honest, even though it's annoying, I really like looking at maps so part of me enjoyed it. All I've been posting on my Miiverse account lately is maps.

Also, the town I have also has a diagonal waterfall and I think it looks awesome.

I looove looking at maps, too! I love the randomness of it and imagining what I would do with different features. And yeeess diagonal waterfalls *_* I didn't even know they existed until I saw a post about them and then ended up with one in Deeproot, haha

Oof. That's sounds extremely tiresome for me. I'm not a resetter at all unless I dig up a pattern stump by accident. I can't even imagine that process of constantly restarting.
