I've never done it before for myself, though I've had a few people buy villagers from me in the past, so I'm not exactly sure what goes on on the other side, so to speak. Is it essentially the same as asking them to move in from your campsite, so they'll move in within a few days into a random spot? (Though I'm attempting to get villagers into certain spots by plot resetting...)

thanks~

Well, it's not the same as from your Camp Site in terms of having to repeatedly speak to them to get them to agree to move into your town. They simply greet you, tell you that they are moving but that they don't know where. Then you can either wish them luck or ask them to move to your town.

I've never tried to plot reset them, but others do. Then they will come within 5 days, usually.

it's almost the same as getting a camper. but you can ask them to move into your town the very first time you talk to them. (unless there's no room or you've had them too recently)
a villager from someone else's town will usually have their plot set up the day right after you invite them to move in, so it'd be best to check for their plot before you load up your mayor/character so that isabelle doesn't ruin your life.

Yes, it's much easier than the campsite. You can only get one villager per day though or one of your adoptions will fail. Also, be sure that either you leave through the gate or the host ends the session. You may know this from your own adoptions, but if the host saves and then the session drops, the adoption will drop too. Somehow the host saving doesn't complete the adoption. You actually have to leave their town by train successfully to be sure you get the villager. Good Luck!

Wow, thanks everybody~! Great advice and so friendly. ♥
Can't wait to start acquiring my dreamies..!! ;v;

It's similar to inviting them from the campsite but, in my experience, it's easier. You just visit their house in the other town when they are in boxes and talk to them a couple of times. If you have a free spot in your town, they'll ask if you know of any places they can move to (or some similar dialogue) and you get the option of inviting them. :)
