My apologies if this isn't the correct forum, but do these kinds of cards work in New Horizons? And, how many of them are there in that series (I considered buying a good amount of them)?

The amiibo cards that you may have used in new leaf do work on this game! Unfortunately they are out of print currently as far as I know, so if you plan on buying them, while you can still find them on sites like ebay, they may be rather costly, depending if you are buying a card for a popular villager.
As long as they are cards of villagers who are also in this game, I do believe those should work! Though I'm not entirely sure if there's a significant difference between the normal cards and "rv" cards, or if they are all the same? Hopefully someone else can offer more input!
i can't view the link (might be a country locked kind of thing), but if you mean these cards, they should also work with new horizons. afaik they were used to bring back "old" villagers in NL that hadn't been anywhere since the GC game and my Sanrio RV cards work just fine (well, for the posters anyway).

Yes they work, even the Sanrio ones will give you posters, others like the splatoon characters, TLOZ, etc. didn't return though. But the 50 villagers from the welcome amiibo pack are in game.

I got excited when you posted that amazon link. then I saw the $70 pricetag and slowly backed away
gamestop doesn't work for me, unfortunately and the amazon one has me dying of laughter.
"2 new at 72 bucks something" - this is getting ridiculous and i kinda hate myself not buying them before NH was officially announced.
