A new villager should be moving in, right?

I only have 8 villagers in my town. And I have for a while. I should have 9 right? I haven?t moved any in through Amiibo etc just yet.

I haven?t played ACNL in a year, and I came back to it a week ago. So my brain is a little rusty with the small details of the mechanics haha.

When I logged on a week ago one of my villagers had moved out. I expected a random move in but it hasn?t happened yet. Every morning I log on expecting a plot to be made but there?s nothing there. So when a couple of days ago on the start up screen I see a plot, which one of my villagers walked past. I was prepared to log in to find one somewhere but no. Even two days later there is no sign haha.

So if it shows one on the start up screen, does that necessary mean that there will be one in game? And am I right into thinking that I should have another villager on the way?

I believe the max amount of villagers you're allowed to have in one town, at a time, is 10, so yes, you're right, a villager should be moving in.

Seeing a house plotted on the title screen is an indication that a villager is planning to move in, but it's not a definite indicator that it will happen.I know because this happened to me, as well.

Just keep at it until it happens. I'm not sure if there's any correlation between how clean your town is and villagers moving in/out, but I find that when my town is full of items or junk, more villagers try to move out and it takes longer for any to move back in. Again, those two occurrences may have nothing to do with each other.

Yes, you should have a villager moving in soon. I know there was a guide somewhere with percentages and such that showed how likely a villager was to move in on X day, but now I can't find it. From what I remember, though, it can take as long as 7-10 days for a new villager to randomly move in. The longer it has been, the higher the chances that a villager will be there that day until you reach the last day and there's 100% chance. A lot of times you get new villagers rather quickly, but I have had it take the maximum amount of time before.

Also, the start-up screen is not a guarantee. I've seen villager plots on the start-up screen a few days before they actually showed up. And the plot may be there or in a different place. That screen just shows a potential view of your town and nothing is really determined until you log in with your character.

I've had 8 villagers for up to a week once (maybe even longer), so you just gotta wait it out. Good news is, if you have a villager in mind and there's someone you can pick em up from (eg. a trading thread or amiibo cards), now's the best time because you have 2 free spaces. There's also a higher chance a random villager will move in through StreetPass or void (if you've visited another player's town). So if you're not looking for any surprises, just be wary about who you trade with until you fill up the slots. Yeah and NEVER trust your home screen!! That home screen is a lie XD

Yeah, there should be a new villager moving in soon. Like everyone else has said, it might take awhile, but one is guaranteed to move in sooner or later. The start up screen doesn't always mean a villager is moving in though. I've had it on my screen a couple of times, but there was no plot to be seen, so don't trust that. :P Just be a little bit more patient and you'll have your new villager in before you know it. ^^

Oh thank you everyone! I forgot there was a time limit. I think I was even more confused as I didn’t know when the villager moved out to the point where I can’t even remember who it was anymore haha. I have a feeling it’ll be tomorrow *fingers crossed*.
