300 baits later

... Still can't find a Golden Trout.

I've used at LEAST 300 baits here between the times that the GT spawns and I STILL haven't gotten it.

Am I dumb?? Is this not the correct spot to fish for them?? I usually throw the bait in the wider pond area rather than the river leading to the waterfall; is that why I'm not having any luck? This is the third level of my island.

That’s the correct place, it doesn’t matter if it’s in the river or the wider lake. They’ll spawn in both. You’re just getting unlucky unfortunately. :[

I finally caught one yesterday after giving up on bait and just catching whatever fish I found on the second or third levels (scaring away the tiny goldfish sized ones)

I basically walked in a circle taking out my pole vault and ladder when necessary

I caught it on the second/middle level at around 5pm

I found mine randomly while running around the island doing stuff. Just saw a fish, and stopped to grab it.

Yeah, spawning rare fish is a pain. Had so much trouble with stringfish last month. Ironically I found a good number of golden trouts while looking for one

That was me with the freaking stringfish. After 200 bait, I just gave up. I figure I'll catch it next year! Honestly, I suggest taking a break from fishing for a day or two. It gets stressful and frustrating to keep trying and failing, you know?

This would be a lot less painful if it didn't take so long to find and dig up each individual clam then s l o w l y craft each one into bait, one at a time. They need to either start selling bait at Nook's Cranny or make multi-crafting. Preferably both. I literally flared up an old tendonitis injury in my elbow by pressing the A button to craft so many hundreds and hundreds of time. I had to stop playing for two days until my arm got back to normal!

We’re in the same boat. I have done about 10 baits a day and still haven’t caught that elusive fish.

I fish between the times that the critterpedia says they spawn! This morning I fished around 8:30AM (they stop spawning at 9AM).

Funny thing is I've caught about 6 Stringfish total while looking for the golden trout lol

I have raised part of my island specifically for this fish, now I have just a bit more river that is considered "clifftop river" and then I just started fishing at all the shadows that were roughly the size I thought I was looking for. Caught it without bait after a few days, but I do think I'm lucky there.

In any case, keep in mind that it only spawns after 4pm, yes!

I caught one before on the cliff and it was the same difficulty as the barreleye for me, it takes patience and lots of bait. I remember getting frustrated with the fish so i took a break then once I returned, I caught one.
