It's like a last finishing touch for me c:

I added lighting and effects around his arrow, added lighting above his head for a light source, blurred the background, sharpened his face and the effects, and did a little color correction.

Hmm I don't like the text placement ; v; Normally it's not good to place text on the edges of corners, it rarely looks good there. >__<

Okay. I only asked since the colors are a lil different so I dunno which was more accurate for the colors.

OHHH THIS ONE LOOKS REALLY NICE!!!! Great job!!!!! I really like how this turned out!!! The text matches very well as well!! Not only that I love the placement of the text!~ Did you use the rotate tool to rotate the text like that? O:

Also you can probably try to erase the blue c4D behind Pit's wings. Or if anything try to just blue it out so it blends in the background more. Aside from that the flow is really nice!~

Add C4Ds near his arrow for a focal.

So tools that can really help you add that nice finishing touch to your sig would be the Blur tool/ Sharpen tool/ Dodge tool/ and Burn tool!~ Those tools are very useful for that finishing touch! Also try messing around with the "Curve" settings and the "Channel Mixer". What is also very useful is finding a really nice texture and putting it on top of your sig and mess with the settings, I tend to like to change it to "Soft Light" and lower the opacity if needed. I hope that makes a little sense hahaha If you have any questions, feel free to ask XD

As for the text, don't worry about it ahahah everyone has troubles with text when they begin. I had LOTS of trouble with it too when I first started. It just honestly takes time to find that right one. What I would suggest is to download a wide variety of fonts you like from dafont.com, so you have a variety to choose from. Also try to add some effects to your text as well. There are some tutorials for GIMP on deviantart about text. C:

Hmmm so by blending I mean like the finishing touch, where everything goes together. For example, this is a request I received and the theme they wanted was dark/red/ and black. This was what it looked like with only the render added on top of the background I chose:
