How do I keep Endermen out of my World?

Okay so I was going on the roof of my house (in minecraft) and I looked away from the Tv screen for a second and when I looked back I saw purple fizzles on the roof? I have no Idea what it was and my house had torches on the roof and torches everywhere on the fencing so I don't know if its a Enderman or not.

I shake uncontrolably when I see a Enderman or squid

Surround your house with a moat,and light the inside portion of the moat.Endermen hate water,ad can't spawn in light.

Last I checked peaceful has no enemy mobs unless there's a glitch on the console/PS Vita version.

You can't really, unless you play on peaceful! Or just make sure to look down at the floor a bit when you spot one, they only get angry when you look them in the face!
