Do animals move while you aren't playing the game?

What I mean is like

I once took a one-year hiatus from this Animal Crossing (long, I know.) and during that time, no villagers moved. I only remember one moving, but that was probably the one who was planning on moving while I was still playing.

So, if I take another (hopefully shorter) break from this game, will anyone move while I'm not playing? Or does the town know you're on hiatus and try to preserve things the way they were when you left (like what seemed to happen for me before, after a year)?

Villagers will move if you don't play for a while. The best way to avoid this is to decline a villager's request to move on the last day you play. Then you can take a break as long as you want.

yeah someone will move, but if you deny a request to move the day you stop playing no one eill have moved until you open your game on another day
